I've got an old Italeri Chevrolet gun tractor kit. What kits would this truck have pulled? I'm thinking primarily Commonwealth artillery or anti-tank guns, but would be open to suggestions of other trailers.

Part two of this question, has anyone seen the new PE set for this kit? Worth it?

Rob,

Primarily they would have pulled the 17 and 25 pounder guns.

they may have pulled 6-pounders from time to time but as these guns were used by infantry AT platoons they were usually pulled by Universal or Lloyd carriers.

They didnt have the power to pull any of the larger guns.

ive not seen the PE sets so cant comment.

as for trailers, im sure at some point they will have pulled various general service trailers as they were sort of 'workhorse' vehicles anyway

regards

Joe

For a little variation, according to the artillery regiment organisation shown in "The British Soldier, D-Day to VE-Day, vol2, it shows two Quads per four gun troop towing a pair of ammo limbers.

They pulled the 25pounder mainly as well as the 17lb AT gun. Others just towed the Ammunition limbers.

I have never seen pictures of then pulling ordinary GS trailers and ,as has already been said, they were too light to tow any of the heavier guns.

6lb AT guns were towed mainly by ordinary 3 ton or 30 cwt trucks.

Cheers
Cliff
