Hey all!
I'm building a vignette for my 1/16 Feldmarschall Rommel figure, consisting of a 40 gallon steel drum, with a mug and map on it.
My question is: which side of the figure should the drum be, left or right?
From pics on the web, I figured that Rommel was right-handed, however my model looks slightly to his left.
Please, all pointers and comments are welcome....
TIA
Quintin

I would have to say on the right of the figure. When i work the cup is on my right. Nice figure to by the way.

I would say the first one. Have no theory about it, just looks the best for me. I guess, the ear of the mug is pointing in the right direction, towards the figure. If he was right handed and the drum was right to him I asume the mug stands this way indeed.
Great idea actually! I have Erwin also as a 'stand alone' but adding some attributes gives it a great look!

I like the mug on his right seems to balance as he is looking out but the humble item tells the small story of stop but wary.-like a fox suits him

I'd vote for the first, too, with the drum and the mug on his right.
By the way, this might or might not help. Erwin Rommel loved peaches , which is not a delicacy in the German's menu. So if you like, you can add a can of peaches together with the cup. I dunno if that would affect the dio...

I would put the barrel on His right (1st photo). My reasoning is because of his foot position. If you consider him having faced the barrel then stepping away and turning his left foot would slide farther away and open his hips with his right hip back. The first one looks more natural.

I'd say the first one, (right) also. I have to agree with almost everyone, it just feels natural. I think he has a little lean to the right as well.

Hey guys!
Thanks for your inputs, they're much appreciated.
I think I'll settle for the first pic, as well. What also makes the difference is, like some of you said, Rommel leans slightly towards his right, thus 'into' the vignette, completing the picture.
So, now the real work starts : painting and weathering the drum and the mug, creating the groundwork, and bringing it all together.
Watch out for some more progress pics....
Cheers!
