I'm currently making a late M4A1, mostly from the spares box, and have a question over stowage.
Would the grouser racks seen on M10s ever be fitted to the M4? If so then I guess that the best place would be welded to the sides, but I've never seen this in any photos. If racks weren't used then where would grousers be stowed?

Hi Dave ...I've never seen a picture of that ..weren't they stowed under the vents on the back end of the hull.

The Bear's right. The grousers were stored inside the rear hull under the vent-like fittings or, in some cases, a plain plate cover. I've never seen a photo of M-10/M-36 grouser racks on an M4, and it wouldn't seem likely or logical to use them. They really aren't necessary and wouldn't appear to provide any kind of stowage advantage. Of course, that doesn't mean that someone didn't try it once just for the heck of it, but the chances seem pretty slim.

Thanks for the pics Cliff - at least I know it was done, even if only by the ever-inventive Aussies!
I think I'll leave them in my spares box for another day though.
