Hello,
I got a question about kubelwagen colors.
I already have one kubelwagen painted dark yellow.
In what theater of operation was a dark yellow kubelwagen used ?
For what I could find on the net, the dark yellow kubelwagen was used in africa but on the easterfront as well, but I can't find the links to this information anymore...
I'd like to use the figurines I already have which are German Panzer Grenadiers with the dio... if I can find a match... if not I'll try to find some afrika corps figurines... which would match my dark yellow kubelwagen...
I'd like to create a scenery with the kubelwagen used as a scout car.
With one or two figurines... something simple for my first try...
thanks in advance

Hi
The Germans introduced Dark Yellow as overall colour for their vehicles in 1943. As camoflage red brown and olive green were used. Untill then german vehicles were mainly in light/dark/panzer/tank-grey colours (I guess there's a another name for it ).
To be honest I don't know why the Jerrys painted their vehicles Dark Yellow. Does anyone know why?
Anyway, you can without betraying history use a Dark Yellow painted Kubelwagen in Russia, Italy or France.
Hope this were helpful

I beleive the base coat was dark yellow because it left a wide variety of colors left for painting camoflage if the unit decided to do that to the car.

it may stray from your dunkelgelb (dark yellow)
idea but if you are incorporating a t-34 maybe you could paint the kubelwagen panzer grey and have a snow scene or somthing along those lines ,
although come to think of it the red/brown / dunkelgrun /dark yellow is a nice camo scheme as i found out when i could actually get my airbrush going well whatever you choose good luck
id love to see my favorite little geman car in another nice dio

Just tried the link I send. Doesn't work. Anyway, visit http://www.ww2modelmaker.com - lots of good pics with all sorts of WWII vehicles.

You can also use this dark-yellow version in a Dutch theatre, perhaps in front of a windmill i'm sure there are many options

The germans decided to change from a base of Dunklegrau to Dunklegelb for the following reason:
The dark grey as a camoflage color worked fine in the towns and cities of western Europe but the plains and steppes of Russia mostly consisted of grasslands...The grass was yellow in color and the dark grey was not very effective. The dark yellow paint blended in with this yellow grass much more effectively

Thanks for the information. That makes perfectly good sense.
I think I'll be able to use my T-34 and my kubelwagen in my first dio.
