Hi there!

Do any of you out there know a technique to make that cloth-like 'thing' soldiers put on the camo-net during WWII? It seems to be 2 inches wide, long and in many 'natural' colours (brown, green and so on).

I've been trying to put small brances, foilage and such into my camoflage net from Verlinden, but the result is dissapointing.

What's the secret????

Simon

I think it's just a lot of patience to weave a piece of paper or whatever through the netting.

Oh no! Feared that precise answer.

Well allright. Have to have patience, and some paper. Sounds a bit boring, but hey...were modellers!!!

Thanks for the reply

2 questions....
1....is this for a helmeted figure(scale)
2 ...is it to fit as"scrim " on a net for vehicles
Answers:
1...cut piece of "muslin"/open bandage pin on board --stretched--dab random spots of "white" glue --as close as required and sprinkle with green "flock"----(railway scenics)----let dry for awhile--shake off excess------repeat process with brown -----(over-spray with laquer).....cut to size .....paste to helmet /packs etc...rougher he better
2.......similar application to wider woven "gauze"---or.. "hair net"......I try to use a frame so that "holes" can be partially filled in with"clear-fix" or repeated applications of "flock"....cut to size or roll
or......make on paper --cut strips and weave( WW2 "scrim" strips tend to be..light brown and grey-green and "hairy")
aye

Me I use cheesecloth, or étamine/cotton à fromage in french, to make camoflage net. They sell it in groceries usually.

I believe he's looking for the hessian tape camo pattern, not just the netting

Hi.
Exactly: I'm looking for the hessian. I've got loads of netting from Verlinden. But the ideas you've given me will be used. Believe me. Thanks all

Somebody did a great SBS a while back, but I cannot find it for the life of me. I did find this photo:

The article says it is medical tape cut into thin strips. I'll keep looking, but so far it's not looking good.

I used thin strips of toilet paper (cut & torn) on the helmet of my 1/16 Brit Para. The texture of the paper makes it look like the weave of burlap or hessian. Painted it with enamels once the paper was in place.
