Having built tanks and figures you have the basic subjects under your belt.
For inspiration look through the galleries, watch an old movie, watch a documentary....
Start simple, one tank, a couple of figures, a bit of ground work. Take some pre-fabricated kits and assemble them in your own way. After a few of those, then start getting creative.

I think the advice given is correct. Also look through books, magazines etc. I don't know if you have a model club in your area but that might also give you some clues.
Perhaps when you have a general concept you might like to post the idea here and get some feedback.
I think that a lot of the good dios have figures in more relaxed poses. Action dios I think are harder too pull off successfully - but that's just my thought.
Good luck and happy building.

Hi Rick! Welcome! The most important advice given out to me when i started on dioramas is to try and copy dioramas that you would find in pictures from magazines and the Net. From there you learn and develop your own unique techniques through trial and error.
Many tips/tricks could also be found on this site. Hope this has helped you.

When you've been building your tanks and figures, did you get an image of what it looked like in action? If your answer is yes then there is your diorama. It is all very good being historically correct, but as long as you don't go too far I would say a bit of artistic license is fine. Don't try to pass of a fictional piece of as an historical one. Some people spend alot of time researching the vehicles and unit history, for them the satisfaction comes from making an accurate piece, others like myself just enjoy the building and painting and I just set mine in a feasible setting for that equipment. The key point to remember is this is a hobby and is about having fun.
Start off with something simple, like a tank on a track or buy a pre-made kit of a building.
Like said before look at the gallery get some idea's and enjoy yourself.
