Hey all,
Some of you may have seen this model before. Some time ago I bought and built the Academy Tiger I early. A very cool kit, because it comes with an full interior, PE engine grills, no fitting problems and good instructions. What else do you need?
Well, an airbrush is handy. I didn't had one at that time and handpainted it......looked like this:
Hand painted camouflage clearly sucks in this case....also no weathering, shiny decals.....
Btw, this is all built before I became an forum-active armorama member lol, guess I learned something here....cause now it looks like this:
Still some things I've got to do.....on the list are:
- rainmarks / maybe little bit of dust
- work a bit on the mud, not satisfied with the results.....(first attempt doing this with pastels)
- give the end of barrel and exhaust area a bit black
Still I think I've improved my old Tiger a lot already lol....
Before I forget, this is my first time I spray a free-hand camouflage scheme. The only camouflage scheme I done before was on my KT but that was a hard-edge one so that's a whole different story....
What do ya all think?

Oh yeah,
There's no comparison...the re-work is so much better!
For the first time at free handing a camo job...very very nice! I look forward to when I can accomplish that.
I really like the chipped paint and the transition between the colors. What did you have your air set at and what type of needle did you use? There's no real noticable overspray in the demarcation....great job as always Martin.

Let's see.....
Sil Air 15exp......air pressure about 0.7 bar
Tamiya HG Superfine AB, 0.2mm nozzle
And euh a bit of experimenting with paint / thinner ratio etc.
I'm pleased with the results...

I have a super fine needle I should try it out again. The last time it was rather tragic.....to say the least. :-) :-) :-)
You mix you paint really thin?
As well you should be!

WOW!
Is it really the same model!!
It looks amazing!
The chipped paint is absolutely amazing and I think the mud pattern on the front and rear was nice.
I just had my first experience with free-hand camo scheme but mine looks by far worse... tons, tons of overspray, and problematic color.. Never mind...
Great job!

I liked the old one better. Naa...just kidding. The paintjob on the "new" Tiger is a huge improvement. The weathering and paintchip looks great. I think it was a good idea to remove the mud. It looked very red and quite heavy.

Oh well, I'm sure it looks even better now. Take some new pics

That was the idea.....an early Tiger which survived some battles in the autumn of 1943. Lot's of mud during spring and autumn in Russia.
But well, this was just some experimenting with pastels. I don't really like them for these sort of things....
thanks for the replies!
