Hello:

Woodland Scenics has a web site that explains how to use all of their products. I have gone to it to get help for two of their products to use to simulate water. The Web site is: www.woodlandscenics.com

They have an acrylic clear liquid in a plastic bottle called "Realistic Water" and they have a product called "Water Effects" that is white and when it drys it turns clear. The Water Effects is about the consistency of toothpaste; so you can make waves with it or high and low places in the water like ripples. The Realistic Water is thin and you pour it into the cavity. And it levels itself. However, WS suggests that you only pour the Realistic Water about 3mm deep for each application and build up the depth of the water in 3mm steps. I suggest you check out their web site. It takes a number of days for it to cure in most cases. I tinted both of these products with food coloring; sometimes mixing the red blue and yellow food color to make a brown, before mixing that Food coloring mix into the Water Effects or Realistic Water.

I use fiberglass resin to make water. It is an easy mix and can be tinted with regular hobby paints, I use Testor's Model Master enamels. You have to pour it in thin layers (1/8-1/4 inch) at a time. It is readily available at any discount or auto parts store, pretty cheap at around $8 for a gallon. It is clear to a greenish hue if not tinted.

Envirotex two part resin is another good choice for water I have poured it up to 3/8" before with no problem. It can be colored but be careful it dont take much. This and the resin Gino mentioned put off very strong fumes so make sure your work area is well venttalated.
