I am just wondering, as I always believed that ambush pattern camo was always a hard edge pattern.
As far as the distribution of dots go, that looks quite good to me, though at points it seams a pattern is developing.
Hope this helps,
Harm
PS. Got the Dragon KT Porsche turret in the mail yesterday.

I've seen images of soft and hard edged patterns. There were no specs, per se, from what I've read. Your base looks okay but the spots seem a bit small and/or too few in number to break the pattern up. Remember, what they were aiming at was sunlight through trees for a dappled effect.

Karl, I'll go with the addition of more spots and maybe just a touch larger as well. I think the pattern looks fine as is. Keep at it. "Q"
ps. In the last pic it seems as though the dots are in a uniform pattern and or distance from each other. You might try to vary this a bit to break it up some.

I have to agree with the above. More and larger spots. I might, if you feel like it, go back over the yellow areas and increase the contrast with the green and red stripes. But thats just me.

Thanks for your comments guys.i was going to do a hard edge camo but i dont like masking off, never looks right when the masking tape is pulled off.so i went with the free hand instead.i will do the dots a bit bigger it will look a lot better then.

Personally I think the dot size is okay, you just need more of 'em!

Hi Karl ...Next time you want to try a hard edge camo ..try using silly putty as a mask...it goes on easy doesn't stick too much as to rip of details when you remove it and the paint doesn't seep under it ...The best thing is that it is reusable! As for the camo scheme ...These varied alot some had more and some had less spots ..so what ever you feel is right...go for it .

If it were OD it'd be perfect
I agree with the others that there should be more dots. It would help break up the pattern better.

Karl, I think size-wise the dots look OK, but you might want to add a few more here and there. Check out the pics of the ambush camoed Tiger II at this link:
Mirko Bayerl's Tiger II
This is one of my all time favorite models. Mirko is well known for meticulously researching his subjects. His T2 is in the factory hardedge scheme which was used on most Tiger II's built beginning in the fall of '44. You can see how the dots look on his model better than some pics I have of the real thing.
Mike
edit: I looked through some of my pics and found one really good one where the dots are very visible.

Karl,
I think it looks fine the way it is, if you do add more try not to get carried away, moderation is the key. Otherwise great build, move on to the fun stuff, weathering.
regards,
Robert

Karl. I think you've done a fine job. I wouldn't change much. Trouble is, if you make a change, 9 times out of 10 you will goof it up.
Decal it up, and weather it. Are you going to use kit tracks ?
Keep up the great work !!
Cheers !!
