Hi there!

I have a excellent book called 'terrain modelling' from Richard Windrow (osprey publishing). If you're into diorama-building : get it! There are also some good parts about water in it.
A stream bed is clear water, so you'll have to use some sort of 'instant water'. The writer suggests some sorts. One is E-Z-water from woodland scenics, basically resin you have to melt and pour on your dio. After that it looks quite smooth, you can give it texture with clear varnish, any type will do i guess. (i never tried water, just 'copying' from the book here )
If the water doesn't need to look clear you can just use plaster, give it the colour you like, and finish it with several layers of gloss varnish. Looks pretty good, but probably not suited for a streambed.
For still water he suggests Nimix or two-part clear resins. For small quantities (like puddles in roads) : Johnsons Klear.

There you go. Hope this helps a bit.

C ya!

Hi Hauser, Here is a link to an article I did that covers making streams. I was very pleased with my results.

I also have to agree with Hans the "Terrain Modeling" book is priceless. Cheers Kevin

Nothing beats EnviroTex for creating a hard, clear water that is easily shaped, colored, and textured. I also use woodland scenics to create waves and more detailed ripples.
