I'm just started Tamiya's Marder III M. In the kit there are only very few plastic ammo shells for the PAK 40 included.I read in an older issue of a german modelling magazine, that the delivered shells don't fit that well in the ammo rack. And they are to few to fill all 27 vessels.

I'm thinking about buying Tamiya's brass ammo for the marder III M:

Is anyone familiar with the set, e.g. used it on his Marder III?

And now a different issue: What kind of track to use? Which manufacturer does a good track for the Pz. 38t?

Patrick,

I have a set of those brass rounds, however, I can't comment about thier compatibility as I sold my Marder III M. Doh!

As for tracks Fruil, ModelKasten & ww2 productions all make a set that will work. I would vote for the Fruils as being the easiest to work with because they would be hard to break while assembling vs. the other 2 brands.

The brass rounds will NOT fit into the racks as supplied with the kit. If you want to put rounds into the rack you would probably be better off buying resin replacements with rounds already in them. I think Blast do a set but not sure. I have used Modelkasten tracks on a Marder and found them to be a complete pain in the a**. I suspect Fruils would be far superior, but I'm sorry I have no idea of number etc.

As Vinnie said, Blast Model (France) makes an update set w/resin cast ammo racks. Also Tiger Models (USA) makes two update sets (mid and early production variants) that have cast full ammo racks.

BTW, the WW2 links are easier to use than the Fruils in my opinion. Easy to clean up and assemble.

The Tamiya shell sets are beautiful. They give you several upper-halves of rounds, and instruct you to thin the racks a bit and use the top-halves. But the cost to get enough of these to completely fill the racks would be high. You would be better off with the Tiger interior set.

Counting in the package here at the bench it looks like 14 half round, 4 full rounds and 2 spent shell casings...

14 is enough, i think. i never intended to fill the whole rack.
ich you say, one can in insert them with minor work, then i think i will go for the tamiya set.

concerning the track i'm still undecided, but favoring the friul track.

thx for your assistance

The Friul tracks are a good set I think it uses 90 links That set comes with a replacement set of sprockets

However, the kit idler wheels are a bit narrow for the Friul tracks You will need to thin the insides of the idlers a bit so the tracks fit inside
