There was a Sd.Kfz 251 version that had a big spot light as a conversion and I tryind to find it but the bad thig is I don't know the name so it's been hard.

I was wondering if anyone remembers what this was called or who made the conversion I would greatly appreiate it.

PS; I hope you can understand what I am trying to ask for, because it's even confusing me. I just remember what it looked like and found it interesting. That's going to be one of my Farhters Day gifts.

Tom,

I believe you are referring to the Uhu. I do not know of any aftermarket kit that is currently in production for that item. Yes, it was once offered, but not anymore - as far as I know.

Maybe AFV Club or Dragon will put one out in plastic.

That sounds a bit like the "Uhu" or the "Falke"

The type of the Uhu is; Sd.Kfz 251/20 and is made on a "D" chassis
More specs can be found on this page

The "Falke"
Looks like this

And as you can see DML has it in a 3 in 1 version cool thing is that with this kit you get the Berlin Nightfighters set from DML with it.
Basically the Falke is also a 251/20 but with another configuration. The Page with the info about the UHU also gives you some info and drawings about the Falke

I know there is a company out there that already released a Uhu conversion and a company called leadwarrior is also releasing one but it is not out yet.
http://www.leadwarrior.com/Lw.htm
First row 5th picture from above
I can`t remember which other company made the other Conversion it could well be Verlinden

More Sd.Kfz. 251 info can be found on this site:
http://www.geocities.com/motorcity/pit/3515/251/

I hope this is enough info for you and maybe someone else could clear out who makes the Uhu conversion.

Yup,

Vadster is right. It was the Sd.Kfz. 251/20 "Uhu"

It was an infraredlight, intended to illuminate targets, which then could be engaged by Panthers and others equipped with nightvision equipment. The idea behind it not that far away from designating targets for laser guided bombs by groundcrews or unmaaned aircraft today.

Tony Greenland built one (to be seen in the Osprey Panzermodelling Masterclass) using a 60 cm searchlight by The Show Modelling as the base for the conversion (and a Tamiya 251/1 D).

R&J did make a conversion set. It is, unfortunately out of production. Both the masters and the producer are pretty much burned out (their own words).

Supposedly DML will offer one in the near future.

Hope this helps,

Harm

Don't mix up the 251/1 with infrared equipment (on the very right in the Dragon boxart, and often called "Falke") with the 251/20 ("Uhu") which had a huge infrared light to light up the battlefield for other IR equipped vehicles (such as the famous IR Panthers)

(well I don't know which version you want to rebuild, Tom, but I hope that helped)

Best wishes,

ekke

Verlinden made a conversion set for the tamiya kit forthe Uhu. It was number 721. Probably OOP now.
I bought it quite cheaply when Dragon announced a plastic version. Keep an eye out for it, Im sure others will sell the resin set to buy the plastic version!
