Thanks to the garage sale hair dryer, I cured the future and placed the decals on the 251, the 13's are from the AFV 251 D the 24th pz and tactical marking are from Archer, convoy and shipping stencil are from FingerPrint designs (very nice by the way) I can't decide if I want to put national crosses on or not what do you all think?
regards,
Robert

Robert,
The camo is very beautiful. If I guess correctly, the efffect was done by preshading right? Then, the centers are drybrushed/airbrushed with a lighter version of the color. Quite ardous but the final effect is really great.
The way you placed the decals is great, too. There is no silvering and it looks like it is painted. A little weathering on the decals to blend in with the hull colors and this vehicle will be a sure winner.

Thanks for the compliments, Angela you are correct about the process, except I haven't drybrushed anything yet it was all done with the airbrush. The decals are pretty nice, a little micro set was all it took. Now I will start the weathering.
Harrison, I am not set up for instant messaging but I would be happy to answer any questions through pm's or on the forums.

This is going to be an awesome beast Robert , great job on the camo. I do agree with the cross, not so sure about the 13 , I have to let it settle in for a while I guess. Is this actual markings or artistic license?
Can't wait for more updates

Robert what a looker you have there! The camo looks great and you did a perfect job with the decals. I agree with the national crosses they look fine. The only other option would have been to use the late war simple version but this works fine.
Where did you get the 13? it looks GREAT!

What do you want to achieve with that process? To simulate faded paint? It looks good.
The halftrack looks better with the national cross on, good call.
Can't wait to see this baby finished.

Thanks for the compliments fellas,
Scott, the 13 was part of the decal sheet included in the 251/1 D from AFV club.
Danny, I am trying to simulate a faded paint, but also break up the montone look.
Bruce the 13 started out as 132,I like 13 better, but it is an actual morking that size. When I first saw it I thought no way that's to big, but now I like it. I think once faded it will look alot better.

Robert

Well…. What can I say that haven't been said yet!?
The model looks astonishing! The camo work is very well done.
Is it free hand painting?
The faded paint affect is just… WOW!
How was it done? Was it by spraying white or a lighter shade of the base color?
Good choice with those cross!
Great job!!!

Hi Ori,
The camo was done freehand with my airbrush, and the lighter fading on the green was done with Tamiya J.A. green, while the yellow was done with Tamiya buff and white. Thanks for the compliments.

I read your other post about the basic cammo. All I can say is when I go to Texas to visit my big sister I am stopping by your place to get an Paasche H AB lesson. That, or you can come up to God's country to see any race you want at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and stay at my house.
Really impressive and inspiring. I have been at this for too many years and paint like that either makes we want to quit or drive on.
I'm drivin' on.

Thanks I appreciate that compliment, you have an open invitation to come on over whenever you are here, I will save a cold one for you, and we can paint till the cows come home.

Wait for me!! I'm jumping on the "great camo" train too. Wow that looks good. Hope you don't mind, but I just might "steal" that pattern from ya on one of my upcoming projects.

That paint job looks good, I like how you have created that faded look, and after you've weathered it it should really spring out, even though it's blended in. Excellent. When you spray this free hand, do you use a mask at all, and what pressure do you use to achieve those tight but soft edges?
Cheers

Hey Henk,
Thanks buddy, I don't use a stencil or mask, just 50/50 thinned paint at about 12-15 psi. What really helps in my opinion is that I use a CO2 tank which gives me constant pressure, unlike a diaphragm or piston compressor.

Robert
