This is really amazing, James Tainton must have the patience of Job. I have to admit this is the first time I have ever seen anyone use an entire Aber photo etch fret

Some people really have to much time on their hands.. :-) . That looks great, and full marks to him for soldering the PE.
Have you noticed that in the B&W pic of the real thing, the tracks are in diferent directions? Great idea to start an argument with a competion judge.. :-) :-) .

Cheers

I sure did, actually I had seen a pic before when I was building mine. I was looking for reference on which way the track went and came across that picture, talk about Murphy's Law. Check out some of his other builds, I really like the 251/9 he did.

Um, wow. There should be a special prize for anyone who manages to use all of the parts from 3 Aber sets...

Nuts, mad, crazy ... the whole works .... but I think we´re all secretly jealous.
What I wouldn´t give to have these skills with brass. I have been watching Jame´s Virtual e-bench for some time on Planet Armor and each new post gives me so much inspiration. Great work as always. I actually want to see it painted and see the final effect.
Have to agree about his skills for displaying and explaining. The 18(?) pages of the 251/9 is an awesome article ... and best of all, its free to anyone and everyone. Compare that to books that cost $20 or articles in magazines.
By thew way ... he´s a member here too. But you can probably understand why he´s not one of the most frequent poster!

He is completely stark raving mad. It is very interesting and compulsive watching the build come along. Definetly can't wait to see it finished.
I bow down before you Master James (i like P.E a little bit) Tainton.

good god, how much money did that guy spend on PE ???!!!!

you can probably pick that kit up for £10-£12 and he must have spent about £50 on PE alone!

if you have too buy that much PE too make the kit half decent, then i gotta ask....why buy the kit in the first place if it needs that much updating ?

I couldn't agree more, although, in fairness, the market isn't exactly overflowing with RSOs....Jim

Even scarier than the thought of all that PE is the image of it being assembled accompanied by the sound of Rammstein. Listening to Rammstein during a car journey on windy French roads on the way back from Alesia was unsettling enough - but modelling to it ??

Depends... certainly if you ordere the PE directly from Poland (like Jadar, no connection to this store apart from being a happy customer). From them, it is roughly 45 euro's (30-35 pounds). Their two super-sets are selling for 46 euro's).

And what is the diefference between this (spending it on PE) and a good number of Shermans with their respective update sets for turrets, hulls, suspension and transmission covers? That will cost you easily the same amount of money. Quite often there is also not much more left then 15% of the original kit it seems.

And then, isn't modelling all about the fun we have with it?

His stuff is always impressive because you get to see it all come together step by step with explanations along the way. I try to copy his style of posting when I show my weak stuff. I have a feeling that out of all the Aber RSO updates sold he is probably the ONLY one who is actually building it. :-)

Well fellas I have to disagree, while the Italeri RSO is not a bad kit, it is missing a majority of the detail, for instance all of the ammo stowage beneath the fighting compartment is only represented by recessed lines. The cab is shaped wrong, and while I am not a rivet counter, if you are then the only way to fix it is by scratch building the entire cab or buying the Aber set. If you have the money and want to dress up the kit, then by all means buy what you want. You also might argue, well why don't you just scratch build it, I think James has just as much talent being able to solder all of the fiddly bits together. Last you can't say he didn't get his money worth, I don't see any brass left on those frets. How many people spend 20-30 dollars on an Aber set and only use half or less? Good work James keep it up.

Robert

Have you checked out his other builds? This guy does this level of detail on almost all his builds.

BTW I heard a rumor if you use up all the PE on all three sets the leftover trees form the shape of another vehicle
