Out of all the reference material I've been able to find on the Pz IV H , one thing remains a little unclear to me.
Did the Germans apply zimmerit to the armoured skirts?
From the photos I've collected it's hard to tell if there is zimmerit applied or if it's just plain old dirt accumulating on them?
Anybody?

For the vast majority of PzIV with zim, there was none on the skirts. I have seen some photos with zim on the turret supplementary armor.
It seems an odd thing to have done, but there is some photo evidence.
I don't remember seeing zim on side schurzen.

It was very rare for any Ausf of PzKpfw IV to have zimmerit applied to any part of the Shurzen especially the side skirts.
Although I do have a piccy of an Ausf H with Zimmerit on the Shurzen skirts. The paint job appears to be plain Dunkle Gleb (sandy colour) with only national markings applied to the turret Shurzen (no zimmerit) near the middle of the front plate.
If I had a scanner I could post you a pic. The book referenced is ISO GALAGO Panzer III and Panzer IV derivatives (Red book with B/W pic on front and back).
