Hi, Was at the local hobby store (I am definitely going to have to stop going up there every Sat. I think, but I just can't seem to stay away, much like the proverbial moth to a flame), and picked up Dragon's Flak 36 kit. And what a neat model it is too, with a very detailed instruction sheet to go with it. And for a little over $27, I just couldn't seem to pass it up. The box kept saying: "Take me!........ Take me!.......... Take me!.........." You know the feeling.

Now my problem, or question here is: What with Dragon's sometimes less that perfect instructions--backward pictures, misplaced numbers, parts not shown being added, etc.--has anybody who is building this kit, and is a whole lot more knowledgeable about this gun than I am, run across any problems as far in the instructions are concerned?

I already saw a posting in the General section over on Missing Lynx here a few days ago that one builder told about concerning backwards parts and mis-placed numbers in a couple of small areas, so I am really concerned, what with the amount of detail this kit has to it, if anybody here has found anything themselves? It's really too bad that this company can't seem to be able to get it's act together on their instructions. Wouldn't it be nice if they could, or would, put out instructions much like Tamiya used to do, what with the little German soldier moving from page to page pointing out things to watch out for here and there. Oh well, such is the modern age I guess.

Thanks and take care, Sgirty

HI,
James Tainton over at Planet Armor is in the middle of one using some PE and doing his usual amazing work. Here is the link. Check out some of his other work too and be prepared for the WOW factor.

Hi, Thanks for the information and web site. What super great close up photos of the parts and how they are actually going together. I've very seldom seen this style of reporting on the building of a kit. Most definitely this is "just what the doctor has ordered" in doing this kit alone. Think I'll be doing lots of checking in here as his work progresses along.

Thanks again, and take care, Sgirty

Sgirty, I've just finished one, completed the final weathering two days ago. I'm now in the middle of painting the six figures that come with the kit, I want to eventually put it on a Dio base, but I will be posting pics in the next couple of days. No major problems as far as I could see.....or minor ones for that matter! Take it slowly, and enjoy...it's a wonderful kit!

What's this? Tamiya doing something right for a change?! LOL
I've just finished putting the tracks on my Dragon 251/6 after painting. Only took 2 hours & my full repertoire of expletives!!!

The photo-etch on the build-up article from the other site, is photo-etch that is included in the kit. It isn't a separate set.

Me, I keep getting tempted every time I see the box. I hear it calling to me . But I wanted to do a diorama (this is, after all, pretty much a diorama-in-a-box), and I don't really want to do a winter scene-- all the figures are in winter dress.

Maybe I'll just do one in travel order, to get it out of my system .

I've now aquired one - just couldn't resist it! Giving us 3 barrels for the same weapon may be construed as overkill though!

Neither did I - I'd have really liked a gun crew in SS smocks, but I suppose you can't have everything. If they had done an SS crew seperately I'm sure they'd shift a stack of them because you could then use them for all the other artillery weapons too, e.g. AFV Club 105s, Alans SIG33, PAK 40s etc etc.
I'm impressed by the contents of this kit though, this is one full box! It does look very similar in many respects to the old Tamiya version (this is hardly surprising as it's the same weapon!), but the mouldings are of course much finer. The jury is still out about the transfers for the camo scheme on the shield though.

BTW around here the standard price for a Dragon kit seems to be £23.99 whatever it is!!!
