HI, With three models I'm trying to get finished up I promised I wouldn't open this "88" kit for at least two weeks. Yeah, right.............

Anyway I started doing just some small work on it and have already run into something of a question for those builders who are much better at this hobby and knowledge of this gun than me.

I decided to go what I think will be the "road less traveled" and do the kit with the Flak 18 barrel on it. When I got up to checking over step two, I see parts B-49 and -50 shown on the instructions as going together. But I also see on the other side of the spure that there are similar, but not the same, parts in B-1 and -2. Now B-1 and -2 are on the same side of the spure as a couple of other parts for the "18", like the plastic barrel halves, breech halves, etc. So I'm guessing here that parts B-1 and -2 should be used with the "18" gun and the B-49 and -50 on the other end of the spure are for the "36" version. Would anybody know if this is correct or not? Or maybe it's noo that big of a deal to begin with.

Just curious here. Thanks and take care, Sgirty

Hey Larry,
You have definitely encountered one of the more daunting/confusing parts of actually building this Dragon kit...

The number of optional parts is very, very high... though they didn't sell it as a 3-in-1... you can certainly make more than 6 or so specific versions of the gun if you choose your options carefully.....

Now, on to your question, the Flak 36 gun mount was regularly fitted with the Flak 18 barrel. The gun cradle and most of the rest of the gun was left exactly the same... So, I'd say that there was no difference in the assembly of the kit parts in step 2 (parts B49-B50).

I believe Tim is right. Those additional parts on sprues are most likely for recently announced Flak 37 version.

Hi, Thanks for the answers guys. This is a great help. Holy Crap!!! Over 6 different possible versions, and all the changes that can be made from one gun (kit) to another are very minor depending on just what each builder whats to show on their particular model. But then again this makes a great sales potential just for this one kit.

And a great learning 'tool' as well. Like the big Trumpeter 1/16 scale T-34s were, I'm going to know a whole lot more about this particular 'piece of history' by the time I'm done with it, or them, as the case may be, than I do now. Which is really why I got back into the hobby again anyway.

And you're most likely right about the Flak 37 kit Pawel.

In hate to show it to the world, but to show the level of my stupidity I just now referred to the front of the instruction sheet and sure enough parts B-1 and -2 are shaded out as not being used. Duh!!!!!! Oh well, live and learn, MAYBE. Ha, ha!

Thanks and take care, Sgirty

That's one thing to never be ashamed of is asking questions, we all ask questions, that is how we learn, what is wrong, is to not ask questions, and do everything wrong, when there is plenty of people here to help you.

There isn't a person in the world that knows everything, some might think they do, but we all know better, there is some that know some in one thing, then others might know about things on other subjects, so with all of us, your bound to get help sooner or later.
