I see the new Italeri Chaffee is marked as early. What timeframe is the earlier issued Chaffee kit from Italeri?
I'm looking for a postwar Chaffee and was wondering if the earlier kit would be sufficient. If I have to buy new tracks anyway then I'd go with whichever was easiest to find. I'm thinking of a Norwegian NM-116 so overall accuracy isn't that important.
Thx,
Paul

The Iatleri marked "WW2" has the simple all steel track. Also the hull should have the mounting pads for flotation gear not molded on.
For a postwar, the steel track could be used, but the rubber chevron was developed soon after the chaffee came into the inventory, and was issued as it became more and more available. If you do the post war, pictures from Hunnicut's Stuart tank book should help with someminor detail differences.

The original issue of the Chaffe was really a very late WW II/post war version. The tracks were (if'n I remember correctly) post war. It has teh pads on the front of the hull seen on very late war/post war vehicles.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll have to do battle with the hordes on eBay.

Paul, I've got the original Testors/Italeri post war version. If you can only get a new issue of the WW2 version, I'll swap with you. I just want a Chaffee for my collection and don't really care which variant it is.
