The information is currently too laconic to deserve a "/news story" spot on the Armorama home page, but I think it is worth mentioning that Academy on their Korean website announced one new 1/35 scale release for the third quarter of 2005. The new release is M998 I.E.D.. The Babelfish translation of very short text in Korean did not provide any additional information about that kit and the only picture shown on Academy website is this:

We can expect it to be old Academy M998 kit with new parts for armored doors and cargo compartment armor.

Yea, the caption reads like this: "Additional armor on M998 used by the curren U.S. military is depicted." "Various weapons included." And "price undecided."

I might have to buy it as a templete for scrap building it to go with the Tamiya Humvees I have.

But if I was not such a SUPER TAMIYA Humvee fan this would be my choice over the other Humvees besides Tamiya.

It looks like a picture I seen in a magazine issue # 33 in the Special OPS Issue.

Something else I noticed on the Academy site. That CH-46 looks like the one mother was trying to build. I remember him looking for some star decals to do his with.

At least Academy is still producing 1/35...that is the key.

Maybe, but I think that Academy has some decent Humvees, certainly ones that aren't portrayed with any other company, namely the M998 Maxi Ambulance, and now this. I can't speculate too much given a.) all that is available is a small drawing, and b.) little info has been released.

I can tell two things just from the image (both the drawing and the photo since they seem to be one in the same):

1.) This is a USMC Humvee
2.) It isn't a M998. This is given in the winch housing.
