After spending the day giving the cliff various washes, sand coatings, and a custom grass cover, i came up with this

Best part is (being as i am very cheap) that grass cost me nothing and though you cant see it with the bad camera, there are multiple shades of green and tan grass

The "grass" was made by watering down diferent mixes of acrylics then mixing it in a bag with sawdust. The saw dust absorbed the paint quickly and within five minutes, i was able to lay down the cover and glue

Tell me if you like it (and if you dont) and keep up the suggestions, there is no way this could look any where near as good as it could without your guys help

The new colors for the cliff are a quantum leap forward. Just my opinion, but I think that the bluff looks significantly better (not that it looked all that bad before). The grass is a decent starting point, but I think that it would look even better it you added some tall grass, which was pretty common on the bluffs above Omaha.
Keep up the excellent work, and keep us posted.

Stoner,

here are the photos. The first and second are panarama photos, and if combined give a view of the entire Ist Infantry sector. The next three are of bunkers and close up of the bluff. The pictures were taken at low tide on an overcast day. Not unlike June 6th, 1944. Hope they help.

Dave

Excellent step forward. I think that some variety of tall grasses would really make it pop. You can buy a long bristle paintbrush and cut the bristles for tall grass to stay with the el cheapo theme. You probably should put some tall grasses where seeds get trapped like corners and low spots.

Is the back of the upper bunker open for access to the inside?

Hi!
Yeah, it really looks better and better. Tall grass would improve it.

suprisingly to me, so far some of the most challenging tasks are not the ones you would think to be challenging

so far this has been the barbed wire and the tall grass

the barbed wire has just been tedious work, one day of on/off work results in 36 inches of coiled barbed wire

as for the grass, i am using the bristles off an old wallpaper brush, but making it into little clumps takes time once you consider all the little clumps needed to fill all the needed places

Now, i have moved the entire base from my garage into a permanent home and am now able to place on all the other goodies

Will have more pics with basic item placement tomorrow!!!
