Progress...
The highway sign is not permanently attached and so I only have it partly inserted into the base on the bridge, thus the white of the plastic is showing. It has to take a trip on a plane, so the dio will travel in subassemblies. I'm testing some thoughts of debris on the bridge. That's a crushed box on the road, and some newspapers strewn around too.
The median strip will have some grass and weeds growing in between cracks and whatnot. Next I will be doing some tread marks on the roadway, including over the crushed MRE box.
Storm drain runs down the bridge support. Sorry about the dark photos.
Any comments are welcome.
Next I will be working on the casualty on the bridge and the weeds, and tweaking some of the weathering of the road and bridge.

I'm Really enjoying watching the progress of this diorama mate.
Your road's, pavement, and everything are extremely well done and painted, as is the Abrams.
Tell me, is that guy up there taking a nap, or is he a dead insurgent, or american?
Cheers keep us posted!

Hi! Very impressive. It really looks realistic - everything; pavement, road, tank the lot.
Very well done

Burik, nice 3-D effect with the overpass, great detail everywhere.
I'm no expert but one small question. On a concrete overpass, isn't the road surface usually concrete? Like I said no expert but I'm trying to think of any I've seen or been across with asphalt and keep coming up with " nope that ones concrete also " I've also never been to the mid- east, unless you want to count the 7-11'S, Quick Checks or local gas stations i've been in.
Thats one hellofa build and I've put your progress and pics with my favorites for future reference, one day I've gotta get into the Modern armor thing.
Once again thats a very eye catching sweet build -- now do more L.O.L.

I'm not sure about the asphalt question. I would think it would be okay as long as the meeting points of the different sections were not covered, thus allowing the movement that is needed with bridges. Mainly though, it is artistic license in regards to color. I considered concrete for the roads but I did not want the dio overpowered with basically one color. THere is enough sand color in the tank and the bridge, and sidewalks.
The casualty is a Syrian fighter. Along w/ the Special Republican Guard, they were quite common in resisting the thunder run attacks. This is the second thunder run, and the commanders targeted overpasses with artillery strikes to clear the top decks of enemy due to the fears of the enemy using the bridges to fire down onto the column. Airbursts were used, and this Syrian is a victim of that. I will probably have an RPG nearby as this was the most common way the enemy fought the AFVs.
Thanks for the comments.

Very smart looking dio, and a really interesting way of laying everything out. Never seen anything quite like that before, a great idea - look forward to seeing it finished!

cheyenne, make a trip out to Missouri, there are lots of concrete overpasses and bridges with asphalt surfaces. Most started out w/ concrete road surfaces and have been repaved w/ asphalt.
BTW, great looking dio!

Yep. On the overpass. This figure was embedded into the spackle sidewalk while it was wet. I have been putting off painting it, but now it is time. That is why there is no guardrail in place yet, so I have room to manuever the brush. Also, there will be a lightpole near the figure on the sidewalk, but not til the figure is painted.
