Hi,
I need to get started on airbrushing and would like to know if this set is worth buying and would be suitable for a beginner like me ?

All other suggestions for a start kit is also highly recommended - but has to be available for shipping within Europe due to freight costs.

I wouldn.t buy this pak.
Why? becouse 1) the compressor is a membrane compressor.
these thing become very hot within a half hour so you have to stop in an half hour.
And 2) they give very irregular air stream.
That isn't good becouse you can get a large spot of paint.
The airbrush is personal, the one like that thing, the other don't.
So my advice is, buy an airbrush for your own personal taste, and a much more expensive compressor with a air container (it isn't the right word but you know what I mean )
Hope this will help.

Thanks for the reply - it was as I feared
Could you or anybody make sort of a buyers guide for airbrush sets and compressors if you are just beginning and doesn't want to spend a fortune until you know for sure this is something you want to do.
As for example the Revell compressors - are they worth the money and what airbrush should go with it ?

Jan for airbrushes I personaly prefer the more proven and time tested BADGER 200 . Im a bit old fashioned and this airbrush has been used by beginners and professional modelers alike. Badgers Cyclone aircompressors are good too for small jobs, but bigger compressors with at least a 2lb airtank are way much better. You can find a lot of brand new Badger products realy cheap on ebay too

Hi Jan
This type of compressor, is a good and cheap alternative, to the often rather expensive hobby compressors. They give a steady stream of air.
Only downdraw is, that they are rather big and quite noisie.
Feel free to pm me, if you have further questions regarding this type of compressor.

I checked ebay and they do indeed have some nice bargins - unfortunally all of them are located in USA which will be too expensive when considering freight costs and taxes

Proberbly the same.
That compressor that Jan shows, have I used a time ago.
But the Gamma is the same as the compressor above.
It's a membrane compressor. It has proberbly the same problems.
I should go for a much more expenvsive one, you can also build one by yourself.
I did that too, you can look in my gallery for a photo of my compressor.
Revell's Omega is a good compressor becouse it is a piston tank with an airtank, so it will not sputter.
Sil air, Hansa, and much more compressors are very good quality compressors.
I hope you'll understand this. It is bad englisch for my taste

Hello.
The Revell compressor "Gamma" is a piston compresor, donīt have diafragm, I think for the specifications.

I had the Gamma compressor, cost a fortune lasted six months with little use i might add i wouldnt touch one again the air flow is not good because it has no storage tank. I got one like the one in the picture from a large D.I.Y. store 25% cheaper than the Gamma and it works fine. hope this helps.

Thanks, but The revel gamma, I think, have a Air tank of 0,25 litres., pressure regulator ans piston system. I suppose with this tank You can has the task of eliminating air flow pulsation without problems. this compressor have not membrane with its problems.
I donīt know, but it is correct my suggestion. Thanks

Hi guys. I got a Craftsman compressor from Sears that looks very similar to the Selekta compressor shown above. It works quite well and only cost about $100 US. I got an Iwata Revolution CR airbrush to go with it. The airbrush can be found for about $60 US or so online. The Iwata is a fantastic airbrush. I am able to do extremely fine lines and dots as well as larger overall spraying with it. I would highly recommend it. The craftsman has a plenty big enough tank and the pressure regulator works very well on it. I was going to get a "hobby" compressor at first too, but ended up with the Craftsman and am very happy with it for quite a bit less money. Good luck with getting yourself an airbrush setup.

Jan, that compressor looks fine but watch the shipping those things are not light, it may end up costing as much again.

Thanks John,
I actually ended up bying the compressor and you are right, the shipping is quite high ($ 82) but the total cost is still quit reasonable, US$ 250, for the compressor and a Paasche VL-SET double-action Airbrush Set.
Looking forward to receiving the stuff and will keep you posted of the quality once tested
