During the BOB, Kampfgruppe Peiper ended up in the La Gleize area with a mixed bag of Tiger ll's, Panthers, and Pz lV's, (and other equipment). Peiper's blitzkrieg came to a halt in Stoumont on Dec. 19, where most references state he lost several Panthers and probably some Pz lV's. I was reading the lengthy and detailed history of the BOB in the US Army Center of Military History site, and it is stated that at least 2 Tiger ll's fought at the battle at Stoumont (not to be confused with Stavelot!). This is the only reference I've seen to this. Does anyone have any comment or input ??

Another quick question...Peiper had 2 batteries of Grille M SIG 33's which "supported" his attack on Stoumont. Did they merely remain at La Gleize and shell Stoumont from a distance (only a few miles), or did they actually accompany the attack?

Biggles2 -
Couldn't find any more then you did on first question. Concord's "Panzers of the Ardennes Offensive 1944-45" says that "In early morning mist of 19 Dec, the armored spearhead of Kampfgruppe Peiper-consisting of seven Panthers and two PzKpfw IVs advanced from La Gleize , west toward town of Stoumont ." The book also shows a picture of an abandoned SIG 33 in La Gleize and says that "13.(IG)Kompanie of SS-Panzer Grenadier Regiment 2 had six of these vehicles...when they entered the town. The other five were abandoned in the orchard." Hope this helps some.
