Howdy doody.
So it took me some time to finish this diorama but I finally got it right.
Here you go, 122H63 howitzer somewhere in Finland, featuring LED gun display!
Just had to finish this, itīs IPMS Helsinki Open next weekend !
The gun display, wiring, notepad and head set are all scratchbuilt. When I have the time Iīll make a drawing about the construction of the display.

Toni,
That LED really does the trick. Where's the battery ? In that soldier's pocket ?

Absolutaly great !
What realy makes a difference in your dios are the details, like here : the red LED, the notes and pen... Your work is inspiring !

Toni, exquisite work!
I have been toying with an artillery dio idea for quite awhile, and your work is nothing less than inspiring! I've also been considering how to include SE in an armour dio ( I've used them in my Sci-Fi build-ups) and once again you've found a way to do it. Bully for you!
Tread.
BTW, your snow looks absolutely authentic. You must share your secret.
P.S. I must also admit to a decent handful of jealousy......nice figure.

Thanks for the comments! :-)
Hereīs a drawing of the LED setup.
The most difficult thing was the battery placement. I then just decided to raise the base to fit them down under. Now the construct allows me to change batteries and the LED with very little trouble. The set of battery case, one resistor and one LED cost me one euro! Value for the money, should I say.
The case for the gun display is made of 0,5mm lead pen lead case . I painted the insides of the piece with silver to add reflection and the outside with enamels. The front was left unpainted to fit the front panel made of two pieces of film negative. the colour of the film is reddish and it blurs and dims the LED very well.
About the snow...I just hair sprayed the whole set and added food soda and blew off the excesses.
I really couldnīt tell how to get the amount of snow right, how to make it look right...I guess itīs when you have first hand experience you just make it the way it FEELS right and thatīs it. I bet I couldnīt make a convincing jungle scene without lots of references as itīs out of my experience.
Iīm gonna get more pics today when the light outside gets right. The weather here is exactly like in the vignette...
Thanks,
Toni

Excellent work, again!!
One day I'm going to try some snow - but living in sub-tropical Brisbane might make it feel a little out of place.
Anyway, keep up the good work and PLEASE keep sharing.
Kind regards

What I like most about your dios is that they are not the same formula everytime. No ruined building, tank and crew. Actually Ive fallen into this trap myself and Methinks its time to try something else. Excellent dio and Iīll just repeat what everybody else said, great snow/frost effect and brilliant use of somethinf simple like the LED effect. Very effective!

For a few pictures more...
Yes, I know theyīre blueish but thatīs how it is when itīs early morning . The whole set was designed to look good in this kind of lighting . The LED really jumps out now...
Focus in the figure & display:
Focus in the gun:
Err...what exactly do you mean Jeff?
At first when we got to shooting live shells, it felt sooo masculine and cool. Then someone told us not to try shoot at modern armor with these because the shell wouldnīt penetrate...after that it felt like a rubber sling..
Penetrate or not, I still prefer to be outside of a tank when a 122mm shell hits...

Just crossed my mind...has anyone tried to "light up" their armor? Headlights etc?
Red light inside a para drop plane or green glow in a jet cockpit would be cooool....

I've got a project to use LEDs. It will be in a Valkyri from the anime Macross (some kind of fighter plane).
LEDs will be used for :
- yellow glint in the cockpit (through the radar screen probably)
- red glow in the exhaust
- lights and guns
