Tom sent some pics of a few M923 5 ton trucks and M997 HUMVEE Ambulances.
Here is a neat shot of one of the 5tons.
The new pics are on pages 6 & 7 here

Ha! What's the deal with the plow? - to push sleeping camels out of the way? :-) :-)
Neat conversion at any rate!

Hi Jim,
My guess is its used for pushing improvised/impromtu obstructions (roadblocks) off the road. It appears the plow (if you will) has already been bent moving something out of the way. The cable appears to be another rapid means of retrieving or moving a stalled/disabled vehicle (probably by hooking into the pintle or clevis hitch). It seems simple, well thought out concept that is useful. But again thats what American GI's do best.
There is no substitute for "VICTORY !"

Excellent improvised debris moving device. Drop the hammer the keeping on truckin'.
It is obvious that vehicle crews are adapting to the serious risks involved in convoys.
What unit does this vehicle belong to? Is this an Engineer unit or a Transport Unit?
Great name for the truck...POSSUM HUNTER.
Thanks for posting the photo and the link to the others...the sand storm is amazing.

I think the dropping of the beanies and candy is a great idea... How can I help?
This reminds me of the "Candy Bombers" during the Berlin airlift - great for morale and winning the hearts and minds.

The truck pictured on this page ( I'm not talking about "Possum hunter") is in fact a M35A3, 2 1/2-ton truck. However that may be, nice pics !

Anyone have any info on the masks that the Chopper crews are wearing? Are they for protection or what?

Guys, thanks for the comments and the catch on the M35. Not sure why these rotor guys can't tell a 5 ton from a 2.5. Maybe if they had to hoist it (can a Blackhawk handle that?).
I am sending a query to Tom for any more pics of "Possum Hunter". Will post here if he sends me any.
Also, check out the new pics I added tonight. He sent me some from a combat mission with a nice write up on the mission that I included in the description of the first pic.
