I just started on building the old Italeri M32 RVA kit and I plan to put in a dio where it recoveres a AFV, but ... rather then doing the obvious and letting it recover a allied AFV I was thinking of recovering a German AFV.

Did they do that? Or did they only recover allied vehicles? If they did it could I use the PZKFW I have on my shelf (never did any German before) or do I need something bigger? (like a Tiger)

Just a thought Ronny, but the M32 was more of a front line use vehicle that was relatively few in number compared to the tanks they supported. Most of the combat vehicles would bypass damaged enemy equipment and it was the rear area recovery vehicles (like a dragon wagon) that would recovery enemy materiel for evacuation out of theater or to a rear area depot.

M32 was needed to recover M4s during and right after battles.

Also just a reminder the M32 kit as is never existed,you'll need an early M4a1 with small hatches or I think anM4a4.

I meant the Panzer IV (H) from Tamiya since that is the one on my shelf.

I know that the M32 kit has his errors, but to be frank, I don't really care. I am still new at this hobby and I am not in to kit bashing, yet

I still am playing with the tiger idea: I sketched a scene where a tiger ended down a embankment end lost a track, while a allied officer commands the crew of the M32 to recover it. Because the crew knows that the never will be able to salvage this huge beast they are looking very confused and stunned at the scene.

The title I had in mind "YOU MUST BE KIDDING, RIGHT??"

Sounds like a good idea? I know you could do it with a PZ IV but the Tiger gives a little more punch (I think)

How about this... the Tiger has ended up blocking a road on a steep slope and the US column has has to stop for it... and the recovery vehicle is trying to ger it out of the way... more plausible than the other scenario.

Hmmm... this brings up a cool "what-if", an M-88A1 pulling a "sunken" Tiger out of a lake after 35 years or so?? It would make an interesting weathering project...

i think the tiger 1 is a bit out of the m-32s depth ,as i remember tiger 1 60+ tons and bent . m-32 27 tons and no power .as these tanks were ex-damaged batle tanks i think the panzer 1v is a beter bet

Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents worth in here.
The M32 had a 60,000 lb winch, could safely straight lift 30,000 lbs (20,000 lift & move)
Were built on M4 (M32), M4A1 (M32 B1), M4A2 (M32 B2), M4A3 (M32 B3) chassis...according to Hunnicut no M4A4's were used but I have seen a picture of one that sure looks like an M4A4 to me. These were all production vehicles and were not rebuilt gun tanks.
