Greetings,

I've a couple of Magachs 6Bs done- one with dozer blade and the other with the russian KT-something mine roller system.
And using a spare set of plows (the ones used by M1 Abrams)..I'd like to build a Magach 6B with Plow.

So far, I've seen only two pics with the Plow used on the Magach 6B (not GAL version), one picture was the rear view of a model entry to some model show, another is a small picture of a convoy of Magachs and Zeldas on page 43 of the Concord book "Tank Battles of the Mid-East Wars(2) The wars of 1973 to the Present"
The tank that is pictured has no thermal sleve on the barrel and it still retains the round turret basket, so it can't be the Magach 6B GAL version.

I've got no luck finding other references, my question is..Is there any modifications made to the Plow system or the tank for its usage?
Was the Plow system used on a 6B version?

THANKS!
Nick

This site will be a good starting point for your search: http://www.cheyl-shiryon.com/. Go to the vehicle references. There may be photos of the mine plow.

Thanks for youe reply Sabot, in fact I've already frequent those sites during my 1st step into IDF modelling, checked it again for updates but no Mine plows..Maybe I should use my best bet as I doubt (more like "hope") that any severe "visible" modifications were made...since the system was attached to the lower hull.

Didn't the US use some of those plows on their M60s during desert storm..?

Just wondering were the heck to put that cable!, for the M1 Abrams it went through the drivers hatch...

Yes, the M60A1and M60A3 used the mine plow (only the A1 during DS). The power cable went through the right driver's vision block.

As you've probably found out, you're not going to have a lot of luck on this one. I asked a similar question years ago on several forums-how to mount the plow to the M60A1. Although the DML instructions show it simply attaching to the lower hull, it doesn't quite work that way. While several photos show the plow attached, none I've ever found show how. Fortunately, there's a simple solution:
Fill in the holes for the tow pintle mounts. Trim the tabs from the tow pintle mounts and cement them to the lower hull 2mm further outboard of their original locations. I'm guessing these mounts are involved in the process somehow. Now wedge the plow between the mounts, and cement the lowest portion of it to the lower hull. It will protrude from the hull, but it does in all the pics all well. It should look like this:

By the way, I don't know how heavy the plow is, but I assumed it would lower the front a little. Hopefully you can see this in the first pic.

faze4 thanks for the link, I posted my question over there just now.

[b]18bravo[/b thanks for the info and pics, I saw a completed version of your M60 with plow on some other site. The attachment to the rear hull--Is that a secondary generator? Where did you get the reference for its construction? How come it's white..resin?
I really like the look of the M60 and all the different modifications that were made to it by the US and IDF..
If I get a positive response from the other site I'll post a link over here..if not I'll follow your lead for the Plow attachment..

Thanks guys

Nick,
That's a CLAMS unit (clear lane marking system) developed by the IDF. It is a resin kit from AEF Designs. The dimensions were way off however, and every single casting was poorly done. I'd like to do another M60A1 with plow, and I'll just scratchbuld the CLAMS this time.

I seee.. I've heard AEF has the largest range of IDF stuff, but mixed negative and positive reviews about the company and their products...

Mixed? For some reason I've continued to give the guy chance over the past fourteen years, and he nevers disappoints, as in-I expect either crap, missing parts, or both. and get it every time. My fault, I know. Still waiting over a year for the promised missing parts to my L33 SPG. You can scratchbuild the CLAMS fairly easily. Use the photos found in Concord's Sword in the Sand, number 2007. I'd have used them first, but I ordered the CLAMS units over ten years ago, before I got the book. What I'd really like is to find a better photo of the Italian Teller magnetic mine detonatong roller, found in the same reference.
Good luck with your project.

Here's the 2 magachs with dozer blade and mine roller

hope to paint them like the 1st magach I did

and had intended to place them on a diorama similar to this..(but with much more rubble!)

But they might end up on ebay instead...
