Hi there,
I just finished a Dragon 1/72 king Tiger, but been strugguling to mixthe right color to depict a camo in late 1944 Ardenne campaign.
Tried a few different ratio using Tamiya acrylics paint, but they never looks right.
Any suggestions?

These are the colors I use (not all of them are matte, you'll have to use flat clear varnish)
Dark yellow: Humbrol 94 or Humbrol 83
Brown: Humbrol 160 or Revell 81
Green: Revell 361 or Humbrol 105
(even though they are quite expenseive I recommend buying all of them)
Just play around with these colors and try different combinations and use different variations on different models, so your panzers won't all look the same
Happy painting,

Are you having a problem lightening the colors for scale effect or is it just the base colors themselves that's the issue?

I think my main problem is in getting the ratio right in mixing the paint for scale effect.
Essentially the camo I after has three color, yello, brown, green.
I tried a number of different ratio between dark yellow & white as teh base color for my tiger, but it just never looks right.
So just wonder whether I can steal the experience of all those you expert out there, what exactly is the ratio you used in painting a 1/72 tiger.
Like I said, right now I only used Tamiya acrylics, but plan to try vallejo.
Thanks in advance.

I wish I had a good answer for you as I'm also struggling with the lightening of paint for scale effect. 1/35 was bad enough but 1/72 seems much worse! Also, I always spray with Futures prior to applying a wash and decals and then I find the colors get much much darker. I usual lighten with white, especially for a color like desert yellow or dark yellow, but the colors end up looking bleached out instead of lightened so I'm not even sure with what colors to lighten other colors.
I'll have to see how my Panther in an ambush scheme comes out and then I can provide you with the results - good or bad. Hopefully we can both arrive at a good formula!
