Ciao slodder,
The usual quality work that you always produce. I really like the overall scene, and hope one day to be able to produce such showcase results.
One question - why the red sides on the dio. To me, it seems distracting (making it slightly surreal looking.) Just my opinion, though.
Ciao for now
Rob

Ah so that's how the canal fits into your project. Very nice.

Rob - I chose the red in an attempt to blend with the red bricks throughout - it does come across a bit bright in the photo - I see what you mean. I may tone it down to a darker shade.
John - the M16 is going to be place with the front end near the man hole and the back end partly on th bridge
Thanks for the kind words.

Scott, its looking real fine so far. I love the way the buildings and bridge are laid out. I see some of the custom dioramics stuff and it fits tthe scene nicely...great detail. Will you be able to see inside the building? I look forward to seeing you add more as you go. As for the red surround I think you would have better luck with a brownish black shade. Kind of a frame to the artwork in it. Remember you just want to compliment whats inside, not draw attention away from it. cheers Kevin

Great work so far, Scott. I'm looking forward to seeing more of this project.
I agree. The red detracts. I'd even say go with black so it is clear that it is not part of the scene as much as it helps frame the scene.

Very cool dio. I love the building, and I agree with the red being distracting, I would go with black.

Making great progress Scott! Can't recall what was happening in the canal or if it would be left as is, but think a figure would look good leaning on the barrier with a boot on the cablewire looking down into the water at something of interest...
Just a small query to you, but what would you determine to take you longer- a full detaling job on figures and halftrack, or the base and building? (Basically what I'm saying is that if you're gonna put in the effort we're seeing in the dio into the rest, then this will never end!!! :-) )

Slodder -
Quite a project and you've laid it out extremely well. I really like the looks of the building. I think the way you've got the M16 planned will work out very well. In your canal there's a small pier/raft with what looks like a ladder going up the wall? Are you planning on figures there? A figure climbing the ladder and maybe a figure or two on pier area would add to scene. Is the water really that harsh a green? Looks pretty nasty.
This will be a pleasure to follow progress on, please keep us posted. Outstanding job.

I think your building is great and the detail superb but for myself i find the brick work too bright maybe a dark wash over it.
Also I find the different colours of the road and pavement and the paving too contrasting. will the cobbles be staying this colour?
The cobbles lok good and there apprears to be a swirling pattern to them which makes a nice change from the usual straight lines.
The canal scene looks really good especially the ripples and the barrel, what are the white pieces on the raft?
I cant wait to see this finished as you also produce such fine pieces.
Cheers
Robbo
P.S. Do all you guys live in mansions as you keep building these massive dio's were do you put them all?
In the south wing, 5th bedroom :-)

Thanks all - with great feedback how can I go wrong.
Yea - the red was 'supposed' to be a complement - oh well, not every decision is a good one - That red has turned into a 'base coat' :-) With such a large wall to paint I think I'll use a variation of burt umber on it.
As far as detailing - I am trying to do a lot of scratch detailing on the M16 and I'm about 1/3 of the way done with it. So it will take a smide of time. As far as overall - man that building took a looooong time. I used the blockhaus cork indi brick method and indi shingles (98% scartch - balcony and drain pipes are CD pieces.)
Kevin - no I plan on butting curtains in the windows so you won't be able to see inside.
The road will stay the contrasting color. It's Kancali's Fan Pattern road section, nice piece. The whole thing will get a bit more wash and pastels to tie all together.
The canal was never meant to be a prime focal point so I had never planned any figures on the water. I do like the idea of someone leaning on the fence. The scene is a relaxed feel one so it fits (off to find a figure...) The while on the raft is a childs sail boat, left behind when he scampered home.
REMEARMR - Holy Cow are you Right On. This has been out in my shop (garage) slowly growning in size. Each piece as made it'sstand in the prime work area. As it has been assembled it kept getting bigger and bigger......Rough off the top estimage is 18"x16"x30". Yesterday it was to hot in the garage to paint so I brought it inside and was going to put it next to my other completed dioramas to dry - It won't fit I seriously don't know where it's going. 1/48th here I come
Thanks again
