Greetings and yes, yet another Sherman that is in the production line... This one however, shall be followed through to completion, c/w crew, dio base 'n all... As with my M4A3 construction, this is at the stage of needing a little work to finish the sand shield strips, hatches and periscope guards. Oh and some wheels and tracks would help... :-)
Have used the formations M4 update set, but feel that most could be scratch built esp. after purchasing the set and using the items as a guide... (IF you have the time)
Have roughed up the turret a fair bit as is evident in one of the pics, but with a primer should be a good finish for painting...
Want to portray a M4A1 around the Normandy breakout, but not a 1st army black and OD camo... Anyone have some ideas as to a TB and where they were in use with late production M4A1s in this time period? Any help or comments appreciated

Hi Bradley.. Lookin' good so far ...If I were you I'd work on the blending of the pistol port a bit more ..That's goint to show under a coat of paint. Your gun barrel is a little off center . There are alot of Shermans that didn't get cammo'ed in Normandy ..If you have the Squadron In Action you've got a good example on the cover .Battling( lady dog) was with the 31st Tank Btln ,7th Armored Division . I'm sure you can find lots of others too..

Rick

edit ... I've been censured !! lol

Ciao HONEYCUT,
Looking really great! I have to agree with Richard, that pistol port is going to look "funny." Overall, it's realistic looking and will come out beautifully. I am anxious to see this one painted.
Ciao for now

Hey lads thanks for the feedback.
Quinten- the turret texture was achieved merely by dropping on Revell liquid cement and rubbing it in with my finger to the desired tackiness(?) Have just sprayed with grey primer, and it has blended in well!
Richard- the gun barrel hasn't actually been glued yet! Just positioned it for arts sake :-) How do you think I should clean up the pistol port? From pics I've seen it looks have real slabs of weld to either side... Maybe make a smoother transition onto the turret side? Oh and I know aboot the "Battling lady". Was going to convert my last tank to this, but came unstuck on how to position the prongs of a Cullin device on the front without photo reference.
Rob, as above with Richards' view on the pistol port. Do you mean just to smooth it down?
Joe, I actually make my guards out of brass strip, as I have only recently found out that for example the Dragon PE included with their sets are far too flimsy for my liking. Doing them yourself is good for the fact you can make them perfect as you see fit... And I used them for all brass items you can see on the tank. Glad you like them though!!

Thanks Prato! Glad you like it thus far... and unlike a couple of lead-in kits to this, I'm hoping it will get BETTER from here on in, not worse... :-)
Hey Richard, I see what you mean! But this to me looks a little too neat, so maybe I'll go the halfway mark between us! (ie. straighten it up and clean it a little)C[ ]

Here's a pistol port on an M4 hybrid, the port itself has been welded up (just before a period when the port was deleted from the turret casting) but it shows how the casting looks around the port

It was just part of the casting of the turret so it should match the rest of the turret in roughness.
