Well, I'm 99% done. I think tomorrow I will put another coat on the black borders where the bridge is "cut." Also, I can't put it all together til I get to Atlanta, so the sign post and light post are just dangling in the photos here.
I decided to go with Gino's suggestion on an AK near the casualty. I also added a small amount of blood on the sidwalk further down to suggest a wounded companion that got pulled out, but equipment and bandages are left behind.
Cheers.

Mate looks good The tank is well weathered and has that cluttered combat feel with out the overloaded look. The dead guys posture and painting is nicely done and the dried blood is tastefully done. There are only a couple of suggestions I would like to make; Touch up the end section of the overpass with another coat. Dirty up the newspaper on the overpass looks brilliant white compared to the dirt everywhere else. Add some dust on the main road down the white line area as the dust and gravel gets pushed to the middle and edge of the roads. The road sign loks like it is new, but you have big dents in it. Maybe have it a bit faded and a metal colour showing through where the damaged area creases and folds. Hope you show us a completed item when you get to Atlanta. Cheers Robbo
woow one of the best dio's i ever seen. This realism is ....just beautiful. This dead man on the bridge looks very realistic. (especially the blood). This one is gonna win some awards! Make it a feature!

This is right out of Time Magazine! If your hand wasn't there it'd be hard to tell the difference. The details make this outstanding. The KIA is spot on.
When you do the last 'cut off' black coat - don't forget to tiny ends of the gard rails.
The top down 3rd photo gives a wonderful viewpoint.
Looking forward to at least an OD submission (please).

So many dioramas I see featured in FSM and some websites have 3 trucks, 2 tanks and about 50 figures. Overkill, I think. This diorama tells the story perfectly with one vehicle and three figures. One of the best I have seen in quite some time.
I am impressed.
Thanks for sharing the build.

Thanks everybody. THis was really fun to put together, and the most satisfying project by far I have ever done, since this will be going to the TC of the Abrams depicted in the dio. He has seen the photos too and feels that is captures the experience of the thunder runs, so I am happy. I don't expect to win anything in Atlanta, but I am hopeful...
Robbo makes a couple of good points. The brilliant white thing on the road of the overpass is actually a crushed box, and there is a bit of black on the it from the vehicle that ran it over. I may give it a subtle wash to tone it down a bit.
In person the roadsign does not look new. I may try to add a bit more weathering to it, though.
THANKS TO EVERYBODY AT ARMORAMA DURING THE LAST 11 MONTHS OF THIS PROJECT (including the tank - that took 9 months out of the 11). Maybe I can get the same help as I do my follow up piece, which will be a HEMTT fueler for a friend - another model I give up! But that piece will not be as complicated as this one.
