These are the results of my first attempt at preshading. The results are kinda subtle. Am I doing anything wrong here? I'mgonna need all the help I can get. Thanks all!

Sorry for the quality of the pictures. I won't be ale to make anymore outdoor shots until next weekend.

hmmm... shall I redo the preshading?

Its a good start. I tned to use a greater variation in color, as weathing tends to tone it down alot, and in some cases can make it dissapear.

What I did was to spray flat black on the joints and crevices. I then misted on light coats of tamiya nato green. (i think I might have overdone this but IMHO, not pretty shabby for a first attempt)
Hope this helps

Yup. It is the trump kit. A very good buy, I might add.

Pics are a little blurry but I think i would have used a darker preshade for greater contrast.

HI

Looks fine as is. I would look at pix of the real item as a guide to weathering. Subtle is better esp. when dealing with modern armour. Most of the weathering today is staining and dirt as opposed to the climate and wear and tear.

A lot too depends on the way in which vehicles are stored. Many countries try and store their kit indoors which removes a lot of the bleacing associated with the sun.

HTH.

I agree that it's a good, if not great start. But I agree with John that weathering will make any subtle differences dissappear quite quickly.

It won't feel right and you think it will be too much when you are doing it right....if that makes sense?

Here's a shot of an old piece that I eventually quit on that I had thought I had pre-shaded well, but the results quickly faded with the first filter that hit the paint job:

John, perhaps a pic of your StuG III will illustrate the point better?

Another shot of an S-Tank that I really thought was too stark of a pre-shade at first, but again after the first filter it essentially disappeared.

And one that finally showed through after some filters:

BTW, very nice looking model. That' s the Trumpeter kit correct? And am I wrong in assuming that the new Sturm Emil kit in the background? How is it??

Joseph,
First let me extend a welcome .
On the pre-shading, I'd agree with the other comments about how quickly it can disappear with weathering.
Since this is your first attempt, I'd go ahead and finish it out the way you had planned. This way you can see for yourself how the weathing will affect the pre-shading you've done.
It may not come out exactly the way you want, but I think there are some things you will learn that will help you with your future builds.
I must confess I've tried pre-shading several times and yet to get the results that I really wanted. To offset the effects I go back and do some post-shading.
Joe :-)

I'm with the rest of the gang on this one, very good first attempt, just finish it out and see how she looks. If you rethink it to much you will never be happy.

Me, I like it!!!

It is the emil. A very good kit, I should say. Very cheap too. The hollowed out track horns are a treat but the vinyl tracks need a lot of cleaning up. The gun compartment is very well detailed although the breech assembly has a lot of seam lines and gaps which need cleaning up.

For some in-progress pics, you can try to check it out at the tank destroyers sub-forum in the CCC forum.

Thanks for all the kind words guys!
Joe
