here an update of my large dio of omaha beach
largest update since last time is the inclusion of many more US troops and a new paintjob to those already made
still working away on the long grass, trying to find the best colors to use
Here are all of my figures so far, some need painted gear and all need weathering and small details
Not sure about how the wire was setup, so for now it is in coils.
There will be remnants of a bangalore by the gap along with more assorted debris
These next ones show my second attempt at uniform coloring, followed directions closely, but still am not sure about the color of the m1941 jacket (some boxes show light green, some show yellow, some show dark tan, some show light tan, U.S. Army models says use Khaki or buff, but i dont know what buff is)
I tried something different and had a fig calling off a mortar team as the other made a dash across the shelf, sound believeable?
Please give suggestions and ideas espiecially on the spacing so far as well as the coloring
Also, does anyone know any plastic figures of either dead or wounded GIs? preferably cheap as i plan on adding quite a few to keep it d-day like

Very nice so far, I like the blood behind the guy by the obstacle. I noticed that one guy by the wall is firing a rifle grenade back along the beach, you may want to reposition him.

Looks nice Josh. I especially like the second photo...looks like it came from the Discovery Channel. Hard to tell from the photos but make sure that the guy telling the mortar team to stop is looking directly at the mortar team. The way he is positioned now it looks like he is looking off to the team's left (if you're looking at them from the beach). Can't wait to see more!

Looks superb to me.
Are you going to add any medics (just thinking of Private Ryan!)??

My biggest concern is the mortar team is too exposed. Move it farther up near one of the sand berms or even to the sea wall.
Far left guy, standing up looks too relaxed for getting shot at on Omaha beach.
As for the rifle grenade guy, leave him. He looks more like he is rolling over to get up rather than aiming the grenade out to sea.
Add craters where artillery hit. Also a tide line might look good.
I am sure you will add it, but much more debris is needed. Take your spares box and dump it onto the base.

thats agreat piece of work Josh I admire your spirit, Re the Jacket colour I was told to use Stone for that, Buff is made by Tamyia and in my opinion is a bit to light for what you need its used a lot for a dust colour on armour, the Stone colour is made by Humbrol but im sure other companies do it

Hi Josh
What size are your figures ? If 1/32 Airfix do a good multi-pose figure set.
I've done some about 10 years ago and had lots of fun changing them to the way I wanted.
I,ve just got back into modeling after a few years and found a box full (see more in my gallery).
Hope this helps someway

Thats coming along real nice.
The only thing I can see is something looks off with the dead guy against the hedgehog in the middle.
It may just be the way were looking at him but he looks to straight.
Are you going to put any spent shell casings on the ground around them?

I agree that some bomb craters would add a lot. I saw a comment about medics. I had read before that medics weren't sent in on initial waves. I don't know specifically. I know that commanders would be the ones to designate the tactical cross-load, if this is a second or third wave, medics would definately be there.
You may want to consider engineers or naval personnel trying to "clear" obstacles.
I do like what you have got going!!

Hi Josh,
that looks most impressive. Which scale is it ? I like the wounded man and the blood; without being too bloodthirsty; there should be more injured or dead GIs (remember, the boys were shot down immediately after exiting the boats). You also might want to place the bunkers on higher ground, like 3meters (10feet) above beach level. That's how it looked like when I was there back in 1995.
The obstacles you made look just fine. If you like, you could add a "Tellermine" to the top of the large ones in the foreground (1st pic.).
Keep up the good work !
Frank
