Hi Ziggy
First off let me welcome you to one of if not the best modelling sites on the web. As to your question, I get alot of stuff from www.hometown-hobbies.com . The prices are pretty low, and the service is great. There are also some threads on this site that show how to make a number of different types of ground cover.
Good luck, and welcome to the site

ZIggy :
First welcome to club
Second are you in the DFW metroplex? We have a group here and one of them is the great dioarma builder Keith Magee. He sells lots of really great groundwork accessories buildings, broken up bricks, bases. As to natural cover. I would use real dirt for dirt and woodland scenics makes some decent stuff to use as grassy stuff, just always use ultra fine. Hobby land in Arlington, or most local hobby shops (LHS) carry that stuff. If you are close to DFW area, there is a show in Arlington the middle of September. A lot of us will be there and you can see Keiths stuff up close and personal.
