Fellow modelers from across the world. My grandparents fought in the war and 2 of my granduncles died fighting the Nazi invaders on our motherland, one of them burned in a BT-5 at the outbreak of the onslaught, the other died in action on a T-34-74/41, both dates are unknown. My grandfather was a medical officer and died in December 2004, my grandmother died 30 years earlier and was a battlefield nurse evacuating wounded soldiers from the battlefield on her back. My grandfather served on the far east while my grandmother saw Stalingrad and left her name inscribed inside the Reichstag, its still there though i havent yet visited Deutschland myself. I have many wartime photoes in my collection but back in Moscow ,not here in Lebanon. The question that i signed here to post is the following. Ive built 44 Axis pieces of armor and supposting vehicles including 5 Tigers, 4 Panthers, 6 PzKpfw IV tanks ,a Famo 18ton half track, Kubelwagens yada yada yada. Ive built Half the Werhmacht in figures, over 100 officers alone. I have ALL Luftwaffe aircraft models in 1/72 and 1/48 scale. The pride of my German collection is the Tamiya 1/350 Tirpitz, motorized and remote controllable from over 100 meters using a long range controller scavanged from one of my racing cars and custom installed with a few burns on my hands. My Soviet armor includes all known tanks, a few each, i have over 200 figurines from the Russian side and i dont even want to type about the aircraft and ships. So, the thing is, all the machinery in my arsenal, except the Tirpitz, naturlich, is numerated and painted for the eastern front, is that a boon for me or is it overzealous dedication to my origin??? I have only one Ardenne front Sherman Tamiya and no dioramas...For now...Am i a veteran, hardcore modeler or just a middle classer??

Ciao VladVolkov,
First, welcome to Armorama. Second, you are modeler, plain and simple. Third, you must be rich and running out of room. Keep it up!
Ciao for now

Depends on how good your builds are. Just because you have built a huge amount of models, it doesn't mean you are a great modeler. Why don't you show us some pics of this great collection?

Coming on and spouting off the great history of your family and that you have built a huge number of models isn't the best way to introduce yourself.

Well I am running out of room in my model room thats true, my tanks are one on top of the other which breaks off the antennas all the time and my figures lay like corpses on shelves, some of the choppers are in a sorry state but the rest in great shape and covered in plastic to avoid dust. The knack for me is just to collect the models and build them ASAP, dont get me wrong, they're perfectly clean built and very well painted. As for me being rich, thats not a very polite thing to ask in a forum as you can expect not to receive an answer for that, thats private. And please noone send emails o this adress, because its my brother's who' not a modeler..

Sounds like to me that you are someone who models what you want. Such a rich background from your family! Such historical ties to what you model! I do not know what level that makes you, but I sure would enjoy the history that the models can open up to you.

Ciao VladVolkov,
I was not being rude. I was only making a joke about the money that you must have spent on such a vast collection. Nor was I "asking" if you were rich. It matters not to me. Why would someone send you, or your brother an e-mail?
Ciao for now

I'd say you're a certainly a prolific builder. Your skill level can only be determined byseeing what you produce.

Volkov,
First off, welcome aboard. People are usually very friendly on this site-at least with one exception.
I read your post a couple of times but could not find anything in it where you stated you were a "great modeler", it sounds like you have a large collection of models. For that, then yes, I would say you are a experienced modeler.
As for your family history, thanks for sharing.

Vlad, welcome to Armorama. Interesting background for sure, but, I don't think that has anything to do with your level of "expertise". It's more of a level of "inspiration". We would all love to see some of your work and when you set up a gallery, a lot of us ,I'm sure, will check it out.
Don't worry about HeavyArty, he's actually a nice guy. It does sound like he had a rough day at work today as this is the second post by him today that had a bit of "fire" to it.
"Share what ya know and gather what ya don't" is how I describe the atmosphere here at the Big-A. Your skills will be better in the end for having been here awile, so sit back and model for the fun, not for the prestige.

Here to help,
Cuhail

Welcome Volkov. The only time I think it matters what level I consider myself is when I enter a model into a local contest. I KNOW I'm not master level, I've been doing it for a while so I'm not a beginner, and I've won a couple prizes, probably more of lack of competition, so I think I'd put my self in the experienced level. Sounds maybe you're in the same level. The main thing though is what YOU think you're at. If you can build a model, and think you've done as good a job as you're able to, and not want to throw it against the wall in frustration, I'd say you're a pretty good modeler.

Sure people would like to see what you've done. They won't tear them apart and will give you good constructive criticism. The main thing that you are having fun with the hobby.

Well if your having fun, then that is what it's for, and as long as you enjoy your models, it doesn't matter if the others don't, cause your building them for yourself.

Unless somebody pays you to do a model for them, then you should be pleasing them. Now if you have a lot to learn, then it is good to listen to the criticism, for they are just there to help you hone your skills to a fine perfection.
