While sorting out a photo for GreatBrit I also had a go @ these which may be of interest (I don't know where I stand with copyright laws here). The first one shows a Panther which was either struck or suffered a near miss from a 16" shell or an aerial bomb.
The second one is interesting as none of the tank crew are actually wearing black Panzer clothing! They are from a Heer unit & all wear various denims and overalls. Quite a change from the immaculate black suit so often portrayed! Note the guy on the right with his cap on back to front - you couldn't use the optics wearing an Einheitsmutze the correct way round! Sorry the photos on it's side guys!!!

Hey
The panther might get hit by a mine or something???
You can clearly see a whole in the bottom on the left side under the engine......
But I would never like to be in a tank hit like that.....Makes you think as a tanker

Hi Steve,
It might not be a good idea to take pictures of photos in books, but hey, I'm no expert. I don't know. But, what I do know is where the first picture is already out on the internet. Plus, there are lots and lots of other photos with it, all from the Normandy invasion.
There are two pages....
http://www.xs4all.nl/~arsaak/panzersinnormandy/index.htm
http://www.xs4all.nl/~arsaak/panzersinnormandy2/
Here's one which is the same as your first pic...
The caption says, "One of the Panther tanks from the 1st Company destroyed to the south of Bretteville, probably by an anti-tank gun situated in the garden of Almir to the south of the church. In the background the barn of Mr Lemanissier can be seen, on the southern edge of the village."
There's a side view too...
Its caption reads, "The same tank seen in profile. Its position would appear to be strange which has led to claims that it was destroyed by an Allied fighter-bomber. In fact it was wrecked by an anti-tank gun and because it was blocking the road between Bretteville and Norrey, it was rolled over into the neighbouring field by engineer vehicles. The holes in the bottom of the body were simply caused by trials with explosives tried out a few days later."
The second pic isn't there, but here's one with a couple of crew members wearing some camo overalls...
Anyhow, lots of great pictures and good information. Check it out.
Okay, one more...

Has this last pic of the overloaded Stug lll been taken as late as 1944 in Normandy? I noticed that at least 2 of the troopers are still wearing their early, or pre-war, issue tunics with the dark green collars. Some are also wearing jackboots, but these could still be seen at the end of the war.

Since the general consensus of opinion was that I shouldn't be doing this, I've removed the photos I took from the book. Sorry guys! I think they are mainly IWM photos anyway, so may be available elsewhere.

The person in charge of IWM photos posts on Missing Links. He says they have no problem with their photos being posted and only ask that you credit the IWM.
There is far too much paranoi over this issue.
