Has anyone built a model by Alan? I have several, all unbuilt. The quality may not be quite up there with DML, Tamiya, and AFV, but they do have fine detail and the newer releases have very good moulding and realistically thin armour plates. Most of their releases are 'rarities', obscure models and variants of Pzs. l, ll, and 38(t)'s. No Tigers from these guys. The prices are also very attractive - especially when Squadron has them on sale. Does anyone have any pro's or con's about their quality?

Some are decent kits with a quality similar to old Italeri. They have a few stinkers and a few real good ones (Panzer II Ausf. C comes to mind). Several Alan kits have been reboxed by DML in the past.

Which kit are you looking at in particular?

Hi Biggles! Here's my Alan Gepard as an example. It was more work than say a Tamiya (but not necessarily a Dragon!) kit, & the Flak 38 was a bit "soft"in definition, but on the whole a decent kit - & cheap! And it had Hohenstaufen transfers in it!!!

All of these kits are unbuilt and still in the box: Pz llJ, 2cm Gepard 38(t), Grille M, Pz l, Pz ll 'Bison'. I realize that some of these kits will benefit with Tamiya and DML parts from the spares box, and new gun barrels. Steve's Gepard looks very nice. As a last resort, if any parts of a model appear sub-standard it can be concealed with stowage or camo foliage.

Alan are decent kits for the price. They aren't shake and bake kits like Tamiya though. Expect some flash, softer plastic than Tamiya or DML and a few minor fit problems. With some patience and some basic modeling skills they can turn out decent. Here's a shot of a Alan PZ II C I did a while back.

I had a BA-20 by Alan..and i have to say that although it was a very intresting kit..I got about half way through the build process and still havent finished it. Most of the pieces didn't fit well at all, need a lot of clean up, and the main body of the armored car was warped so bad that no matter what i did to try to fit it..i just couldnt make it work..Now sadly...it sits unfinshed as there are no replacements for it since its an out of production kit...
