Im doing some cleanup on my picture files ( i know an endless task) & I'm trying to break the PnazerIII collection into the various Ausf designations. My problem is that I don't know which sites I can trust for reference. One site says one thing while another says something else, even the same pics will be labeled differently from site to site. VERY FRUSTRATING.
Does anybody have some good sites or books tro recomend
-that show/discibe the various small differences between the versions
-that has accurate info regarding yrs made, # made, armor, gun size, Etc.
This is kind of fun, & if this keeps up I might have to make one of these German beasts

Not an expert, but the cheap and easily found Squadron PzIII In Action book has decent pics and does a good enough job of showing the subtlties between versions.

I also have the Squadron Panzer III in action book and it has many line drawings of the different features that appear on various Ausf's..
so I would recommend it also.

A very good website is www.axishistoryforum.com and one of the best publications is Achtung Panzer. The A.P. books are excellent and axishistoryforum has a larger reader base than most, as well as more informed people. Check these out!

Thanks for the recommendations guys. I will look into the squadron group of books, and the Axishistory forum looks like an informative site, if for nothing else but more photos :-) :-)

If you want a great book to help you sort out which is which I would suggest you try and find a copy of Achtung Panzer # 2 . It goes through the changes in the different variants pretty well.. Just remember that the production line didn't just stop and all of a sudden change from the E to the F ..changes were gradual and so it can be very confusing .

Hi Rick, I will look into Achtung Panzer # 2. I hear you about the gradual changes, upgrades and refits. I recognize that mistakes can be made pretty easily, but I hoping for a good reference to sort through these as best I can( this is something I only want to do once :-) )
Thanks
Bruce
