Hi everyone!

I just picked up Dragon's T-34/76 Kit No. 6205 at the last day of the Hobby Lobby sale today. What a great buy to get that kit for 16.50 plus tax! It looks like an awesome kit and it's my first Soviet armor kit.

First, has anyone else built this kit? Is there anything in particular to look out for? It also will be my first experience with individual track links.

There's one weird thing in the kit that I noticed. There is one small sealed plastic bag that has just one thing in it...a little strip of thin cardboard probably about .75 in x 2 inches with what looks like a piece of a black and white photograph on it. What the heck is that?

Thanks for reading and I hope you all are having a great weekend!

Picked up the same kit I did. That is a photo of the engine/tranny area that you can put under the photo etch grill area.

That makes sense. Thanks for the response Sabot! It looks like it's going to be a great kit.

A better, fairly inexpensive option to the piece of cardboard is the Maquette T-34 engine. It runs a whopping $4 at Squadron: http://www.squadron.com/ItemDetails.asp?item=MQ35024.

Thanks for all the ideas guys!

Sabot, have you used the Maquette T-34 engine before, or has anybody else used this? Is it difficult to build and get into the tank correctly? Does it come with instructions? I've only done minimal resin work before. Thanks for all of your advice.

Oh, actually I see that it's styrene...very interesting.

The engine is plastic and the same one that comes with their T-34 kits. Here is a review to the kit: http://www.kitreview.com/reviews/t34enginereviewcs_1.htm. I have not used it yet, but it comes with engine mounts and should go into almost any T-34 with little problem.

I have a couple of these engine/transmission sets and feel they are easy to put together. They are very basic and the more of them you wish to show will dictate how much additional work you will need to put in. If you have the engine hatch open and the inspection cover on the rear plate open, you won't need much additional detailing. Any more than this and you have a lot of scratch building to do. If you want to make a feature of engine and transmission then you may be better off getting a resin kit. However this is more $$$ and effort. If you just want to see it through the rear grill stick the transmission in and paint it white/grey.
