Oddly enough, the forum helped me a lot with this. The easiest thing to do is research the individual units..i.e. sPzAbt 501/ 502/ 503 etc. These will tell you what the units history is. I personnally found out about the 509 being attached to the 2nd SS Das Reich on the eastern front late in 1944.

Graeme -

The Russian Front late in the war was basically a constant battle/skirmish. Tiger II (King Tigers) were definitely involved, so as SSG_Q said it kind of depends on what unit and where you were interested in. A couple examples;
sPzAbt 503 - Tiger IIs fought in Hungary (Sept 1944), defense of Budapest
sPzAbt 505 - Tiger IIs fought in East Prussia (Sept 1944) with 24th & 25th Pz Divs, at Narev bridgeheads
sPzAbt 509 - Tiger IIs in Hungary (Sept 1944)
sPzAbt 511 - Tiger IIs fought in East Prussia (Apr/May 1945)
sSSPzAbt 502 - Tiger IIs fought in East Prussia (Sept 1944), defense of Berlin
sSSPzAbt 503 - Tiger IIs fought in East Prussia (Jan 1945) with 3rdSS Pz Div (Totenkopf), in Danzig-Gotenhafen area
Info from Squadron's "Panzer Colors III". Hope this helps some,

Graeme,

I believe that the 314 means the vehicle was tank #4 in the 1st platoon of the 3rd company. The Division or battalion is not identified

Mike is right. It's only an ID #. 314 doesn't designate a battalion or regiment. Just research the units, and find out if there was a 314.

In late '44 the Germans were not fighting in Russua either, they had been pushed out of Russia and in Sept of that year were on the outskirts of Warsaw. In the south they were fighting in and around the Carpathian mountains and were falling back on Budapest.

Abteilung 314 was actually an AAA unit. 'Heeres-Flak-Artillerie-Abteilung 314'
