I've seen a few good forums in here on grass, but i still have a few questions. I've seen a few dioramas in the gallery pics that were just amazing. I'm planning my first diorama that I will be starting in a few months. The grass I'd like use is the longer grass i see in some of those pics. But, i do not know where to get it, or how to apply it to the base? I've seen a few ground covering recipies in the forums section. should I apply this to the base before the grass? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jay

I use Woodland Scenics tall grass. I fold it over and tie the end and add a drop of superglue. I can get two or three clumps from each bundle I pull out of the bag. Any well stocked railroad related hobby shop should have this. I drill holes in my base and plug in the clumps. By all means, ylu have to lay the ground work first, otherwise, you grass is going to get all messed up. Woodland Scenics also has Fine Turf in a varieyty of shades and seasons.

Hi Jay:
I have used the Heki Grass on two dioramas so far and it is very easy to work with. First you put your ground work down and allow that to dry. Second, using diluted white glue, put down a layer of regular static grass (I use Woodland Scenics brand, available at Model RR stores and even Hobby Lobby if it is not in your LHS) and allow that to dry. Then you tear off sections of the Heki grass, stretch to the size you desire and then attach on top of the static grass using diluted white glue (I brush it on in small sections, applying the Heki a little at a time).
I purchased the Heki Grass from Scenic Express: http://www.sceneryexpress.com/
They have a 1-800 number you can call to order the specific types of Heki Grass you want. Hope this helps.
