Looks like you posted them wrong. Nothing but the dreaded red "X"'s.

As you paint figures. you'll want to practice at blending shodows more, the lines in the face come off as being too dark and hard edged. Also, though this could be a tricl of the photo, you'll need to apply a flat finish to the scene. As it is, it's too shiny. I, too, can't figure what all the red is.

try toning down this red,use some pigments or artist's pastel. Figure painting asks a lot of practice (i know) ,you'll get the hang of it

Graeme,as a vignette, painted it is not upto much, but as a print it is bloody visual, you have captured the enviscorationed of a soldier, and the horror of his friend, forget the bloody bricks, that is the remains of a person, try and get a bit of background in the next photo, like it or not pal you have got a visual rarity, what do the rest of you think on this

With the shape of the red mass, and the total lack of recognisable human body parts, I think that if you would take it down that road, You'ld have to start thinking " Predator does Stalingrad" .
Graeme, for your first effort you have made a interresting effort, and as you see, all on this site will help you with both encouragement and fair critique. Remember that any critique is (almost ) always followed by hints and tips to improve your skills. After all, that what we all try to achieve, improvement.
You may have noticed that that sometimes people go either a bit off topic or indeed pick up on a funny bit, and go off to la-la-land :-) :-) . It's all harmless fun, join us on the farm..
Cheers
Henk

hi i would like to know what you ppl think of my vignette its my first and would like some critisism.
Since you asked, I will be bluntly honest with you. I do not like your viginette. I do feel you have alot of potential though. You have started shading your flesh tones, which, with a little work will turn out great.
Here is what I do not like about your viginette:
The entire viginette is extremely glossy
The bricks, look very red and do not resemble to a brick at all.
The trench coat looks like this:
http://webzoom.freewebs.com/ww2shop/m36cap602-medium.jpg
You will never see an MG42 with rust unless its been sitting in mud for months, here is what an MG42 looks like:
http://www.scottsdalegunclub.com/faq/images/MG42_B.jpg
Your K98 pouches are wrong color, here are what some K98 pouches look like:
http://www.reenactorstuff.com/auction/makethumb.php?pic=uplimg/a102869_mainpic.img&w=500&sq=Y
The figures eyes are crooked (although some people are like this, you probobly would not like to implement this in modeling.
The tree almost looks like a chunk of wood sticking out of the ground. It doesnt really resemble a tree as far as wood colors.
Also the K98 does not look like it is firmly attached to the figures hand (as would be in real life)
So after all this, I would like to say that you gave this a great try and it only takes time. I have to tell you you have given a lot of effort into this, as far as shadows, mud splatters, trees, bricks. You have ventured farther than me when I was at that level. So I would ask of you, stick with it, and you will definatly get better. Post more pics of your next project to.

I think your vignette is ok for a first go and that your figure is painted fine. Sure some of the colours are wrong but as for the techniques its fine.
As for the big red thing, go to your model shop get some humbrol brick red repaint and add loose debris, job done. As for rust on weapons this takes only a day or so to start.
I quite like the figures face he seems quite battle shocked and in awe of the situation.
Cheers
