Does anyone know the color number or of a duplicate for the tan/yellow color the army is using? I have tried three brands but nothing is close. thanks

Exact, out of bottle match for modern CARC Sand is Testor's Model Master Sand, FS#33531, Testor's # 1706. That is what I used on my M981 in your other post. I use it on all my modern CARC Sand models. It matches what I have in the motorpool exactly.

There appears to be two Tan/ Yellow colors in use by the US Army

1. Sand FS 33531 only "match" found Testors Enamel B-1706 "Sand"

2. Desert Sand FS 33446 only "match found was Floquil Acrylic "US Desert Strom Sand"

Sand is a lighter shade of Desert Storm Sand.

Remember pics you see of these vehicles are probably already weathered, faded and covered in dust, and this paint does not wear well (the real stuff) so an exact match may require some mixing ?

Hope this is of some help !

EDIT: Oops - not trying to "cap" on Gino's or or Al's posts, when I started typing no one had responded to the original by the time I was done they both had posted, LOL !

Guess we were all typing at the same time. One thing I will add. The Testor's Model Master "Army/Marine Gulf Tan" is too dark for modern CARC. It was based on a shade of tan painted on tanks in Saudi Arabia that was not a standard FS color. It was a color that was bought locally in Saudi and quickly sprayed on vehicles to get some tan on them. It also peeled pretty badly. Once the vehicles came back stateside or went into PrePo stocks, they were properly repainted in CARC Sand, FS #33531. So, if you are doing an ODS model, it could be painted Army/Marine Gulf Tan. If you are doing a moder,n post ODS vehicle, the correct color is Sand, FS #33531.

I'm doing OIF in a dio of my motorpool at my station. In response on how the paint weathers, ours lasted two tours with no repainting and almost exactly matched the new 981s shipped to us.
