Myself and a friend were out kit hunting today, looking for some interesting subjects to build. My friend is fresh back into the hobby and i was looking for something a little different, interesting, yknow...and what did i get?

Dragons 2005 Tiger1 'initial production' 3in 1 kit!...andf boy, was i ever glad i did! :-)

The kit is utterly fantastic, the box almost bulging with choices for you to pick. The kit is excellently put together and the detail is outstanding! I must admit i was like a kid at christmas when i was opening the box.

One reason for my choice is that ive never actually done a Tiger before (i know, i know!) and this seems like a great place to start. My camera isnt great but i shall try my utmost to post some in progress pics as i progress.

Now for the research! wish me luck!

Good luck Aaron, but I doubt you'll need it. It's an excellent kit. I finished mine a coulple of weeks ago and am now eagerly awaiting the arrival of DML's Late Tiger.

I finished mine a month or two ago! man, you're going to be in heaven, just don't get discouraged about the amount of road wheels! HEhe, the Magick tracks make up for it though with ease and speed of assembly!

Here's a pic of my dio with the kitty...

Dragon did their homework on this one. All the variants have been fairly well researched and are reasonably accurate portrayls

thanks guys for the encouragement and all your help!
Ive been searching the net non stop and have found a few good sites to use. Much thanks for the pics 'n' links, and to vinnie for the build guide, im sure ill be referring to that!

Ive found info that the paint scheme varied somewhat between 42/43, from the dark grey, to whitewash to camoflage - would it be feasable to use one of these other paint schemes? (ie would an initial production tiger have survived from late 42 into early 43?

Cheers guys

I bought the DML Tiger 3n1 late down in Atlanta at the IPMS Nationals and cannot believe what is in the box. It is just unbelievable what DML has included in this kit.
I can't wait to start it.

from my research into this kit.. it would be safe to say that yeah the Initial did survive, but was modified with hull skirts and airfilters (febels SP??) Ummm I know a guy who built the Initial and put zimm and a Sand and German Olive Green cammo pattern on it, which represented an initial used somewhere else in Russia. The white wash, sure why not? If I remember right, the Initial came out in the fall, and winter came on fast for the Germans!

From the list ive got i noted that the Tigers of the Schwere Abt 502 had included all three types of camoflage, and im considering using either the winter scheme or the two tone tan/olive green. Am i correct in whitewash was applied by hand, at the crews discretion? And is it possible to show combat damage from A.T impacts? ive seen alot of photos where the front armour and the turret had lots of dents and whacks from shell that had failed to penetrate - would i need to heat the plastic to show these, or be able to bore/scrape em out?

thought id try posting another question here before i try a new post....im still wondering about the previous question, but also about the smoke launchers - - would it be a good idea to model the cable that (i believe) is connected to these, with say, fine wire?

I have one too! It's still in my stash, it looks sweet even in the box. I'll just have to keep calm and finish my campaign models first! :-)

Great pics Tigertankman - howdya do the mud on the tracks? Byrden cheers i checked the link and ill try to add the launcher cable if i can - ive got some spare wire so i should be able to do it.

This kit is amazing - it took me three days to even open the box, and another couple just going thru the sprues and instructions. Ive been resource hunting like crazy and now have a little 'booklet' of paint schemes, units, technical info and more. I must admit Teachers build guide is proving invaluable, so much thanks for posting that one Teacher :-)

From the info ive gathered the Abt.502 had a cpl of aces, Otto Carius and Johannes Bolter among them. Im still trying to decide whether to build this as one of thiers, but its good to know the unit had so much history. Currently im moving towards the whitewash paint scheme.

So far ive built the lower hull, with the brilliant suspension system and the P.E mud guards on the rear. Ive been a bit adventurous and chopped the two front mud guards off, replacing them on the optional 2nd front plate (without M.guards) adding the P.E set and making them look bent and damaged. Im getting ready for the upper hull next, and i want to add some battle damage as i go, shell strikes and so on.

Overall id give this kit a 10/10 and ive only just started!
