There are many articles on washes, I too have difficulty locating them.
All I know that, like others, I went out and got oil based paint for washes..that is key for realastic effects, as its very thin and flows eveywhere. Its a small inverstment, but worth it, you only need two colors, burnt umber and black

I've been searching for this information as well. I'm running out of test parts, lol.

My problem seems to be stripping off existing paint. I am painting figures, first applying an acrylic grey primer, then painting the figure in Model Master enamels. When that is complete, I'm painting Model Master acrylic flat clear, which was intended to "seal" the existing paint. When I mix my wash, I'm using SIG Thinner from the local Hobby Lobby, mixed with Model Master enamels in darker versions of the base paint. My most recent attempt dried for over 5 days after the clear flat was applied, and the first brush stroke lifted off the original paint. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I'm running out of junk parts to practice this with.
I've ran searches on this site, and have found some good links, but still can't find what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks for the replies. I was able to try some Future & finally get a successful wash application after letting it settle for 24 hours.
