Hi, hopefully someone will be able to help me with this problem.

I know of the SdKfz 251/17 Ausf C as pictured below:

My problem is this:
Is the photo below a SdKfz 251/17 Ausf D?
Where can I get more photos and information, either online or books (including models), of this vehicle?

I found these images at: http://www.geocities.com/motorcity/pit/3515/251/251-17.htm

Thanks in advance for any and all info!

Hi Eric

The 2nd picture is a prototype of the 2cm Flak carrier. Based on the 251 but was never introduced into service as it did not offer any other advantage over the mounted halftrack Sd.Kfz. 10/5 and was costlier to build in both materials and labour.
This info comes from the squadron Sd.Kfz 251 in action book. Uses the same picture as you have shown here as well.

Frank, Thank you for the info. As I have a spare 251 D & Flak 30&38 I might give this one or a field conversion a try.

Hi Eric. Some more info for ya ...

According to the old Bellona Handbook (No.2 Part 3) "German Army semi-tracked vehicles 1939-45" this vehicle was designated Sd.Kfz. 261/17.

It also says " records seem to indicate that this extensively modified Sd.Kfz 251 ausf. C only appeared as a prototype. It did not offer much advantage over the 2cm Flak 38 mounted on the Sd Kfz 10/5 - 1t ZgKw chasis, yet used a bigger, more complex armoured chasis".

This is from the Polish magazine GPM Monografie 5

Maybe Pawel or some other Polish speaker could translate it for ya. Hope this helps.
