I went to the imperial war museum on sunday, and they have an early Jagdpanther knocked out by several hits to the right hand side.

the sign in front of the vehicle mentions it was knocked out by a cromwell that fired 5 shots from approx 50 yards to destroy the panther.

does anyone have further details of this engagement?

regards

I'm amazed that the Cromwell had time to pop off 5 shots at the Jagdpanther unless one of the early shots did something to the treads which didn't allow the JP the ability to neutral steer and place the front in the Cromwells sights. and enbale a return shot which would have been a catostrophic event for the Cromwell.

If I remember correctly from my last visit there, the shots were all from the right side/rear quarter; and all penetrated fully into the interior. Messy but effective.

Here are a couple of pics of the Jagdpanther...

They're from this page...

http://homepage.eircom.net/~safc/iwmj.htm

It has more pics and has this to say about the encounter...

"t was knocked out by the Cromwell of Lieutenant WH Griffiths 2nd Armoured Reconnaissance Batt. Welsh Guards in Hechtel, Belgium (Sept 1944)."

I looked around a bit, but didn't find any additional information other than this page which shows the TAC for the unit, a white "41" on a red background...
http://miniatures.de/html/ger/toe-1944-guards-armoured-division.html

...and this picture of a Cromwell which might be from the same unit...
