Ola Guys
Well I`m happy I can offer another update on my little vignette. Still don`t have a name for it but parts are coming together. Today I started working on the guy hanging in the streetlight. I did some modifications on the Armature after seeing Rui`s (skipper) Drawing and I thought that looked cooler.
So.... From this
and after seeing this:
The result became this:
Well The Shoes are from DML, The Hands are from Warriors and the head is from Verlinden. (That are the parts I still don`t have the courage for to sculpt. Plus I had laying them around anyway.)
So much for the Armature
Next giving the guys some Skin (at least the shape of it.)
The Weird bend in the left arm is the putty not the Armature I already changed that and the arm is now more or less straight in the same angle.
Next some more views at different angles
As usual I`m really curious what you guys think of it. Don`t spare me just say what you think. Any form of feedback or suggestions for future work on this figure are welcome.

Question - will his right hand be what is holding him up or will his arm be wrapped around the pole? If it's his hand I would twist it a bit to better form around the pole.
Other than that - it's a great update. I like the pose and the sculpting is coming along nicely.

Very Quick reply scott
To answer your question.. No it will not be his right hand that is holding the guy up. I wanted to do that but because of the lack of good hands I choose to combine my idea with Rui`s sketch. So he is holding it with the bend in his arm. In a further update I will show you guys what will happen with his righthand.

I know it's early but at this point he looks too skinny. I'm sure the next level will add more heft. Also I'd check the angle of the head. It seems as he's looking up in the sky

Indeed you are a bit too early. This is only the first stage I planned on this sculpt. This is only the Basics of his body. Next will be: Giving him some body. And also his Clothes are to be added so more weight will be added soon. His head in the pictures is still loose. I haven``t glued it in place. In the end he will look the correct way.. I also started another figure (another resistance guy pointing at something) more about that later.
Thanks for your replies they are much appreciated.

I liked it a lot! I will find some courage too and I´ll try to scuplt something...what do you use for sculpting? Is there any tutorial on the net?
I´m really curious about the title of this viggnete....do you something in mind? I tried something related to "singing in the rain", but nothing came to my mind... :-)

Very nice, I really like how this is turning out, I can already sense the emotion in your figure, just by his face and the way his body is formed around the pole, looks like a good day

Thanks for the replies.
@ Antonio
I use normal A&B putty which you can buy in the modelshops. And about the sculpting...... I don`t have an online tutorial of which I`m working from. I just checked the galleries of several good sculptors and saw how they made armatures and such. I thought I could do that too. So basically I`m doing nothing more then copying what I see in pics online.
I still haven`t got a definitive title for this vignette. I`m toying around with a couple of ideas. Probably I will have a concrete answer in one of the coming updates.
@ Shain
Thanks for the compliment mate. The whole Dio must show the Happyness and celebrations of the Liberation of Holland. I think I already am doing well on bringing that emotion to the figure in the Pole.
Thanks again for your time mates. and of course if anybody has some good feedback or Critique just shout it out here.

I can only advice you to simply try it. My experience is also only based on what I have seen online.... Now I`m trying to do it myself. This is my first serious sculpt for a dio Before that I made a Sniper but I didn`t go to far on detail because he was lying under a blanket and no much need for Detail then. Last weeks I have done some experimenting with what I saw online in pictures and basically I can`t really say I have the skills yet. Just do it and don`t be afraid to make mistakes.... (I have a garbagebin full of mistakes at the moment.)

Robert just an anotomical one - your left elbow is nor in the central part of his arm - if you have alook at the photo you may see it bend at about 33% also watch you othe elbow as it is starting to get the bend rather than an angle - just sharpen the outside of the right arm and break the left arm and rebend -also your left knee is curved rather that bent- easy fixed -break and angle the wire at the knee joint - I hope this does not seem harsh- just getting these things right will help rest of figure (I did exactly the same things and Auburn and steve lennon and Alanmc have all show me when i do it )

Ola Robert!
It's strange to see a drawing come to life, specially if it's our own
I really like your progress, and although it looks skinny and with some apparent posing problems, I think that with the next layers, those will be corrected and he will start to look properly!
I really like his joyfull face
A great day for Nederlands would explain this happy face!
Keep us posted, and keep up the good work

Hi Robbo,
Some thoughts about the final colours (I know it's premature...) Make the clothes suitably drab, with a splash of colour from the flag and/or a orange scarf or something similar....

Hallo Robert,
Ziet er veelbelovend uit..
I know it's the liberation of the Netherlands, but will it be placed somewhere specific? If in the West of Holland, after the Hongerwinter, he should look skinny, with his cloths rather loose fitting.
Looking good sofar, looking forward to the progress

Ohh, as an aside, I don't know if this has been touched on yet, but I think that you should try to cram as many people as possible in your small base, as in most instances everybody came out to welcome the Allies and to celebrate. Photo's of the time show big croweds in packed streets. And don't forget to add many Dutch Flags and bits of Orange aswel. Maar he, dat wist je natuurlijk al.... .

Thanks Rui,
I was wondering why I couldn't find any of the earlier comments, but the " part deux " in the title should have given me a clue.... that'll be my blond moment of the day then :-)8 :-) .
I blame it on my job, the pressure is unbareble..
Cheers

Sigh, I must admitt my first reaction to seeing the first photo was... Oh boy, we're going to see Angelina Jolie doing a victory poll dance. But, I gotta admitt, I love your idea much better. I hold the highest respect for you scupltures, your brilliant, and I just gotta thank you for the step by step photos of what you do. YOU stimulate senses in me that I never knew that I had. Thanks! I love what I see so far, even it wasn't Angelina. She broke up Jen and Brad and I'm mad at her anyway.

Thanks for the replies. And again sorry for my late answer..... had some good parties this weekend.... Monday included
@Dave
Thanks for the compliment. Of course it is possible to combine everything I post here into an Article. But that will be completely done when the project is finished.
@ Ian
Yes I was thinking of the anatomical aspect. But what I want is not the kind of Cheerleading pose with hard curves. I actually made pictures of me hanging in exactly the same pose as a personal study of the folds and such. The fun thing was that joints such as knees and elbows not always look that evident. Right now I have given the guy more body on almost it`s entire body and it starts to look all right. Also the Left arm is more of a Photoangle I think as in the real it looks quite ok. Still love the feedback though. It is good when skilled sculptors are willing to help you.
@ Rui
Thanks for the comments. Yes indeed it is funny to see a drawing come to life. As already said more layers are added already and he looks more man less Alien . I was really happy to find this laughing face in my Scrapbox.... It was exactly the kind of emotion I wanted to show.
@ Erwin
Yes this was exactly my kind of thought too. Just good clothes with simple colours no fancy stuff. All the colors will come from the flags, Confetti and streamers and such.
@ Henk
I was more thinking along the lines of the Celebrations of the liberation around cities as Nijmegen and Eindhoven. kinda like the BOB scene. And as Rui already showed you it will be completely loaded with figures.
@ Easyoff
I`m sorry I could not bring you Angelina Jolie doing a victorydance.
Too much honour here. I just try to do something as a first timer.... In the end the fact is that if you don`t try something you won`t learn it. I simply started and that step is not as big as some people think. Only problem is that you have to accept you are going to make mistakes and get some strong feedback on what you are doing. I like the last line of your post very much... It is not the fact that I am the guy that stimulated the senses ( there are people better then me at that.) But by showing a Step by Step as a newbie I`m quietly hoping more people will follow this as it really is big fun.
Again guys thanks for your time responding on my post more to come in the next update. And of course if you still have feedback you just shout it out.

i like the fact that ure proceeding with courage and fearless!!! LOL
Sculpting figures is surely an extra touch in modelling skills and this time i am at the stage i will hunt this one too !!!
So i really appreciate that u show us your efforts in the figure and i will be waiting to see how this will come in life.
One thing that i appreciate on u as a modeller is that u never are afraid of trying anything and that is what a modeller should do
Keep it up

Thanks for seeing my feedback as how I intended it - I really only want to encourage you , iam so glad you are doing him and doing a topic close to your heart -that is the great part of sculpting -not relying on what is in the market- you know my figures and that al came about becuse nobody did large warhammer like dwarves in large scale except fantasy forge and I could not get them in Aussie at time. sorry wafting - I try to show step by step and Ernesto does the same with painting so does Arthur and many others like GCdreamer in SCIFI and you doing does exactly the right thing -Encourage newbies to see that it is not a difficult thing to sculpt but just like anyother project it take time to master and I am a long long way from there

Rob as usual I am a bit late but your attention to detail and your skills at doing odd stuff is as usual excellent.
I will try and remember to follow this one as I have never made a figure from scratch like you are doing before

Ola Guys
Again thanks for the replies.
@ Costas
I can only encourage you to do the same. Simply make an Armature for the figure give it a good pose and then bring out the miliputt (or whatever material you will use for that ). I can only encourage you.... but you still have to do the sculpting yourself.
This is something all modelers should do and you`ll be amazed what you can do with a little imagination and a little time... Nothing goes perfect at first but you learn some new tricks with every sculpt and you learn to do several things better. Same goes for weathering and Scratchbuilding. Don`t be afraid to mess up stuff. I have loads and loads of evergreen laying around with only different types of weathering for vehicles.
@ Ian
You are correct with the sculpting the non existing things comment. I have never seen a figure hanging in a streetlight and the number of Celebrating figures on the market is also really minimal.... If it isn`t there you can do 2 things: 1. Waiting till it hits the market...... which can take a really long time and most of it will probably never happen. 2. Make it yourself and have a really original piece in your dio.
And again I`m not trying to learn people how to sculpt..... I`m not a Bill Horan, an Anders Heintz or a Marijn van Gils nor am I a commercial sculptor...... I`m just trying to show that with some courage you will be perfectly able to tackle a project like this.
@ Cliff
Thanks for the comment mate. Really appreciated. I hope you will one day do something like this too.... Wouldn`t it be cool to have some Aussies next to your trucks? And I`m sure somebody who is able to make a house the size of a nickle is able to do some magic with sculpting.
Next update will contain the Figure with more weight and my study of folds.

Hola Faust!
Great to see you venture into the world of sculpting! It's a ton of fun and very rewarding.
Looking at your figure there are some anatomical problems, remember that the anatomy is the KEY to a good figure. Without correct anatomy the figure will never look right as the foundation is 'crooked'. Now this is not easy, very hard as a matter of fact.
Here are a bunch of measurements for a 35th scale figure that will be of help when measuring out the mannequins key points.
1/35th Figure ~6 ft Tall
Arms from Shoulder to knuckle - 21 mm
Shoulder to Elbow - 10.5 mm
Elbow to knuckles - 10.5 mm
Hip to Ankle - 22.8 mm
Hip to Knee - 11.4 mm
Knee to Ankle - 11.4mm
Crotch to Mouth - 22.4 mm
Hope this is of some help!
