I'm getting geared up to start my Tamiya King Tiger Porsche turret. Was wondering if there was a color diagram that showed the King Tigers at the Bergen firing range (as shown in photo below from Scheibert's "King Tiger Tank" by Schiffer Publications)? Trying to figure out which color is which on the black and white photos so can try and match these color schemes.

Do I have these colors right or do I have the Red Brown & Olive Green colors backwards?

Thanks

Maybe this would help...the lightest color is dark yellow, light color is red brown and the darkest is olive or dark green...

I dont know what that huge black splotch is, but I am inclined to say that it is a yellow undercoat and red/brown camo scheme.

ok - here's an experiment I've been playing with. Scanned in a color photo (from same book) of the King Tiger captured and taken to Aberdeen then converted to gray scale on my photo editor. Then compared to get the results at the bottom (the darker color being Red Brown and not Olive Green).

Would that work? Thought it kinda interesting anyway....

I don't think that's how it works. It might give a different output depending on the picture...This might help

Colour painting is 1st kp. 503. Photo is of 3/503. There are 2 months between the 2 issues of TII's to 1st and 3rd kp.
The colour photo of the Aberdeen TII (sSS PzAbt.501) is a post war repaint that closely matched the original.

During World War II, some film types made the red darker than the green, some made the green darker than the red. Add to this the time of year and day, the position of the camera and subject relative to the sun, the weather, atmospheric conditions and a bundh of other factors, and it becomes quite clear that it is impossible to determine colour from black and white photographs.

Just look at the Panzers during Fall Weiß and Fall Gelb - it's extremely difficult to see the edges between the Dunkelgrau and Dunkelbraun.
