Ola people

A while ago I've joined the FOC (forum online contest) of Twenot. And I have got to say, I don't regret it. I've learned a lot. The only reason why I won't join a campaign here's because the language. My english is not that perfect to understand all those terms. And this foc is one in my language (dutch) So it's easy for me to learn. But maybe later, I'll show up with something of mine in the campaigns.

In a meanwhile we're a couple of months further and at that forum I post at a regular time some pictures of my work. But here, I seem always forgetten it.
So here I am, with some pictures!!!! At this time I'm on update 3 and the inside of the vehicle's ready for 60/70%

I'm ready for some critism, so shoot. I want to learn and improve my skills!

Cheers,

Wezz

Cool scene - I like the overall composition. You don't see the VW much. The tree trunks are nicely done. I also like the wood color. Very well done.
My critique is of the leaves and the yellow veins on them The yellow veins run at about 45 degrees and the leaves are at 90 degrees. The yellow 'cuts across' the leaves in an unnatural manner.
Looking forward to more.

First, your English is fine, I had no problem understanding anything you wrote here.
Now, the Dutch was a problem for me, since I don't speak it, so your English is 100% better than my Dutch..... I hope you'll keep posting your work here, looks really nice, and after all, they say a picture is worth a 1000 words anyway.
Hopefully you will enlist in a future campaign here.

Hi Wezz!

I like the dio idea and layout, they are looking good! Two comments on the jerrycans though: I don't specially like that black spots on them for they are looking like mud splashed on the cans not like paint chips(if this is what they supposed to be) Second comment is that you should have the jerrycan cap glued on the right side of the can and not in the middle. Last thing would be the wood on the rifle: man that looks awesome! How did you achieved such convincing finish?

Cheers,
Pedro

hi all.
Thx for the replies.

Slodder: I think I'll rework the leaves. They don't feel right. Too big, too dark green... I'm searching for new ones.
Pedro: I've made the woodcolor like this: First I gave it a base of 876 vallejo brown sand (any brown color would do). Then for what color of wood you want, you take burnt umber (dark brown wood) or burnt sienna (red-brown wood) or alizarin crimson (real red wood) and paint it in a thick layer. Then you take a stick where you clean your ears with and rub it a couple of times. Until you get the satisfied result. I got to say, look out with the alizarin crimson. That is real red. Too much of it and you've wasted your model. A thin layer of this should do.

Hope you can read my english and I hope you got an help on this.

Cheers

Hi Wezz,

I think its not necessary for you to replace the leaves yet, why not try to just paint over them. They actually look good its just that color thats problematic.

Just my suggestion...

I think it is a great diorama. Dynamic, tense, the tree really says North Afrika. The VW is a unique subject--sets appart from the Kubelwagens and SdKfz's. I want to see more ASAP!

Glad you suntanned the faces.

I think your jerrycans look good. I nicked mine up the same way with dark gray, based upon the photo of them on the SAS jeep on the instruction sheet. Careful repositioning the caps, though.

One idea, if you can reposition the breadbag or something, so that it is not against the body--impression of movement.
